After seven seasons of being on Bravo's Summer House, Paige DeSorbo had announced her departure from the show in the month of July. The 32-year-old fashion influencer and reality star recently talked about her reasons for leaving, her goals for the future, and whether or not fans can expect her return in an interview with Byrdie as part of her and Hannah Berner's cover story.

Paige DeSorbo joined the Hamptons-based reality show in season three of 2019 and immediately rose to prominence. She said that she “just had this overwhelming sense” that she could not go on after years of disclosing details of her private life on-screen.

The reality star made it clear that intuition played a key role in her choice. She said:

“I just had this gut feeling my time on the show had come to an end.”

She informed Byrdie:

“I just had this overwhelming sense that I couldn’t go back. I know I would’ve been doing a disservice to [the show]. They expect a certain level of showing up, and I couldn’t give them that.”

Struggles with reality TV life

Viewers witnessed Paige DeSorbo's relationship struggles with Southern Charm actor Craig Conover during her last season, a storyline that she admitted was challenging to carry out publicly.

She told OK! Magazine:

“Being on reality TV, there's a level — this is a harsh word — of, like, brainwashing,” she said. “That's not real life. You're not stopping people on the street and being like, ‘I just had a thought that I hate my boyfriend.’”

Berner chimed in:

“It's very interesting to have been in [reality TV] and out of it, and be able to have those two perspectives. We just hate being put in a box."

She went on to add:

"The truth is that on reality TV, if you stay in your own bed, you can't fight with people.”

Paige DeSorbo went on to say that leaving also required getting over the worry that her career would end if she left the show:

“There's an element of thinking you need that show and network, and Hannah was reminding me they're not in charge of where you are in your career. I am assimilating back into society. I’m like, what do people do on a Saturday night in the summer?”

Paige DeSorbo and Hannah Berner's next chapter

Paige DeSorbo and Hannah Berner, who are best friends and podcast co-hosts, have frequently discussed how Summer House restricted their on-screen connection:

“We’ve had people [from Summer House] verbatim say to us, ‘We don't want to focus on your friendship this season.'"

DeSorbo revealed:

"That was why we started Giggly Squad, because we were like, ‘We have more things to say, and no one is listening to us.’”

Berner chimed in:

“I think we say more on the pod because we know how it's going to be put out. Whereas when you're on TV, you can say something personal, but you don't know how it's going to be framed and in what context.”

Berner, who joined the show back in 2019 along with Paige DeSorbo and departed in 2021 following a disagreement with a few of the castmates, has built a successful career as a stand-up comedian, giving DeSorbo hope as well that she can do it as well, leaving the show behind.

DeSorbos' exit announcement

In July of this year, Paige DeSorbo updated everyone on her exit through her Instagram stories:

"I have a little life update for you: I've made the decision not to return to Summer House."

She continued:

"Being part of this show has been one of the most rewarding chapters of my life — the friendships, the drama, the giggles, all unforgettable. You've seen me grow up over these last 7 summers. I'll always be beyond grateful for the memories, the community, and the opportunities this wild ride has brought me. But like all good things (and some bad decisions), it's time for this chapter to close."

DeSorbo concluded:

"To my castmates, the fans, and my NBCU family: thank you. I never could've imagined what this journey would turn into — and how many of you would be along for the ride. And you haven't seen the last of me, I promise. So much more to do together, but for now you know you can always find me and Daphne in my bed."

Paige DeSorbo has closed the doors for her Summer House, but she hasn't completely ruled out going back to reality TV. She told People magazine:

"I would never say never, but I think coming off of it after seven years, I would love a break."

In an appearance on the Bravo by Gays podcast in August, a month after she announced her exit, she shared:

“I wouldn’t say I would be going back or a similar show where there’s an ensemble cast [that] dives into your life anytime soon. If something popped up in the next two years, [I would say] maybe, but as of right now, I just don’t see it for myself.”

Paige DeSorbo won't be appearing on Summer House as of now, as she continues to make her venture beyond the show.
