Dylan O'Brien's trans and non-binary sibling, Julz O'Brien, has reportedly claimed that the actor has been absent and unsupportive in their relationship, despite the latter's prior comments about being "grateful" to have a queer sibling.

According to a post on the verified X account of Pop Base:

Dylan O'Brien's trans non binary sibling says their brother hasn't spoken to them in over a year and hasn't been as supportive as people may think.

The rift first came to light via Instagram comments on May 1, 2025. It has sparked significant debate among netizens.

Gay Times reports that in a previous interview, Dylan O'Brien had stated:

"I have a trans, non-binary sibling and I know people in my personal life as well who are queer, and I am so grateful for how much it deepens my experience in this world."

Us Weekly reported that in reply to an Instagram user's comment that said Dylan O'Brien's alleged girlfriend is "homophobic" and "racist", Julz O'Brien wrote:

"He also has not spoken to me in over a year. He did not check in when I had top surgery. He didn't even wish me a happy bday last week! But glad I could deepen his experience in this world and make the world love him that much more 😏."

Dylan O'Brien is mainly known for his roles in Teen Wolf and The Maze Runner film series. According to reports, he has maintained a relatively private personal life over the years.

His 2024 queer thriller film Ponyboi premiered at Sundance in January. In an interview with Vulture, the 33-year-old actor also seemingly spoke warmly of his connection to queer communities and his sibling.

Internet reactions to Dylan O'Brien's non-binary sibling's public claim

People were notably quick to gather in the comment section of the X post from Pop Base, as they penned their thoughts regarding the matter. Below are what some of them had to remark:

"Is it a requirement to support everything and everyone?" asked an X user.
"No, but if you're gonna present yourself as someone who supports something but in private, you don't walk the walk, it kinda off, no?" retorted another.
"Tbf him not speaking to his sibling could quite literally have nothing to do with them being trans. Like they have several decades of history outside of this one fact," stated a user.
"Everyone forgets that trans people have other traits than being trans they may be a horrible person, they may have did something for their brother to initiate no contact humans are complex but people forget that," opined a user.

Others chimed in:

"Damn, that's rough. hope they can reconnect soon," shared a netizen.
"This is disappointing, but I feel like we need to hear Dylan’s side before jumping to conclusions," commented another.

Dylan O'Brien has not responded publicly to the claims, and his representatives have not issued any statements.
