According to Business Insider, Sydney Sweeney has been at the center of scrutiny by fans for her role in the controversial American Eagle ad. In the ad, Sydney Sweeney can be seen talking about great "genes" that are passed down from parents to their children, among other traits. The ad, which was created for their Fall 2025 collection, uses the concept of a homophone to market the brand's "jeans." In the ad, Sydney Sweeney can be heard saying:

"Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue."

Both American Eagle and Sydney Sweeney have come under immense scrutiny for making an ad centred on eugenics, which has been branded by many as racist. The brand, despite the backlash, did not apologize but released a statement, saying:

"Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone."

Sydney Sweeney can be seen efficiently shooting close to seventeen shots while practicing her aim with the gun. According to Blast, the Euphoria actress had visited the Taran Tactical Innovations Practice facility, which is a firearm training and accessories company based in Simi Valley, California.

In the video, taken in July 2019, Sydney Sweeney can be seen shooting at the intended metal targets, while being lauded by her friends and particularly by Taran Butler, the owner of the facility, who can be heard saying:

"For your first day that's pretty uhh pretty good."

Now the video has once again resurfaced in light of her American Eagle jeans ad controversy. The video has been posted by several accounts in X (formerly Twitter). User @dom_lucre posted the video, prompting it to once again make rounds on the internet. The user wrote:

This has prompted her fans to comment on the video and show their support. This person wrote:
