Is Tom Bateman related to Jason Bateman? All we know about The Love Hypothesis star and Daisy Ridley’s husband

British actor Thomas Jonathan Bateman, commonly known as Tom Bateman, has been cast in the lead role of the upcoming film The Love Hypothesis, which is an adaptation of Ali Hazelwood's 2021 book of the same name. The 36-year-old actor gained significant popularity and rose to mainstream fame after starring as Giuliana de' Medici in the historical fantasy drama series Da Vinci's Demons, which was released in 2013.

The netizens have often been confused and wondered whether Tom Bateman was related to Jason Bateman, who is a critically acclaimed, Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy Award-winning American actor. Besides the fact that they share the same surname, Tom Bateman and Jason Bateman are not related, according to IMDb.

Gaining major popularity after starring in Da Vinci's Demons, Tom Bateman has been in several other highly-rated TV shows and movies. The Cold Pursuit actor has also starred as Bouc in Kenneth Branagh's mystery thrillers Murder on the Orient Express and Death On The Nile.

Tom Bateman, who has been married to British actress Daisy Ridley since September 2022, has also starred in the Peacock original series Based on a True Story alongside Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina. As per IMDb, born in a working-class family, Bateman has so far had a successful career working with well-established and seasoned filmmakers such as Kenneth Branagh, Jonathan Levine, and Paul Goldman.

In a 2018 interview with The Scotsman, Bateman shared that he was born and brought up in Oxford, England. His father was a music teacher, while his mother worked as a teacher in a primary school. He has 12 siblings and a twin brother.

According to People magazine, in 2022, Bisous Pictures acquired the movie rights to Ali Hazelwood's novel The Love Hypothesis. Deadline broke the news on July 17, 2025, that Riverdale alum Lili Reinhart will be starring opposite Tom Bateman. However, there has been no announcement regarding the movie's release date.

Claire Scalon will be directing The Love Hypothesis, who previously directed rom-coms and comedies such as Set It Up and The People We Hate at the Wedding. As per Deadline, Ali Hazelwood, in a statement, regarding the cast and crew of the upcoming film, said:

"Honestly, I still can’t believe this is happening? Elizabeth Cantillon, Claire Scanlon, and Lili Reinhart have all created, produced, or starred in works that I’m absolutely feral about, and I am beyond honored that they’re choosing to bring their talent to this project."

"Books and films are very different media, and I have complete trust in this brilliant team. I cannot wait to see the final product they’ll come up with. I hope they have as much fun filming as I had while writing the book."
