American actress Issa Rae, who has a net worth of approximately $20 million as per Celebrity Net Worth, is currently facing a lawsuit for copyright infringement. The lawsuit, which was filed on July 30, 2025, involving Tyrone Perry, Shon Oku, and Joshua Isaacson, accuses the acclaimed actress of stealing the concept of her much-popular buddy comedy One Of Them Days.
According to reports, the lawsuit states that Rae's 2025 popular comedy has striking similarities with writers-Joshua Isaacson, Shon Oku, and Tyrone Perry's 2020 sketch of the name One of Those Days, as reported by Hot 97. The lawsuit also mentions screenwriter Syreeta Singleton, along with Issa Rae.
Issa Rae's sketch features Keke Palmer and SZA.
More details about Issa Rae's lawsuit
The plaintiffs claim that One of Them Days' character growth, narrative framework, and general tone are strikingly similar to a script they submitted to a former producer for Rae's HBO smash, Insecure.
In late 2023, the plaintiffs started pitching their script, initially showing it to producer Danny Hamouie, who is not mentioned in the lawsuit and never replied. The script had never been seen by anyone outside of their group before.
The authors then sent the script to Green Eggs Go H.A.M. founders Xavier Charles and Roman Arabia in April 2024, but they turned it down.
A few weeks later, though, Rae's production firm revealed One of Them Days, a movie about two roommates who are rushing around Los Angeles to find money for rent. The film, which was written by Singleton and directed by Lawrence Lamont, debuted in January 2025 and made over $51 million at the box office on a $14 million budget.
The writers argue that Charles’s past connection to Rae's as a former Insecure producer, combined with the timing of Rae’s project announcement, is too coincidental to overlook.
After examining both works, seasoned screenwriter John Brancato concluded that the parallels were "substantial" and unlikely to be coincidental.
