As per a recent article by People, actor and producer Kelsey Grammer shared that he regrets that he and his ex-girlfriend got their child aborted when he was in college.
This info is mentioned in his new memoir titled Karen: A Brother Remembers. The memoir also mentions the r*pe and murder of his younger sister Karen Grammer, along with the fact that two of his ex-partners had their children aborted while Grammer was dating them.
Grammer mentioned that this is something that he will regret for a long time, and along with calling out doctors who perform the process.
"I know that many people do not have a problem with abortion, and though I have supported it in the past, the abortion of my son eats away at my soul." Grammer wrote in his memoir.
He also wrote that one of his girlfriends' names was Jill, and it was around September or October before he was dismissed from Juilliard.
“I was not happy about it and told Jill that I was willing to keep him. I never wanted her to accuse me of being unwilling to have the child, but I also did not plead with her to save his life. I supported the idea that a woman has the right to do what she wants with her own body. I still do. But it was hard for me. Still is.”
Grammer wrote that it was in the year 1974 that his ex-girlfriend decided that she wanted to abort the baby. Grammer mentioned that he did not plead with her to keep the child, though he was willing to keep the baby. He mentioned that he clearly supports the idea of women choosing their bodily rights, but still has regret in his heart.
Grammer mentioned regretting his decision in a recent interview with Parade on May 2.
“It's a lingering regret. Yeah, it lingers. I don't know what else to say about it except I wonder what he might have done in life and how much potential existed.”
Grammer wrote that he wants to apologize to his son, along with the fact that the abortion took place six months after his sister died.
“My son's body vacuumed out of his mother,” pled Grammer “God, forgive me. I want to apologize to my son." He further added "I do not wish to harm Jill’s family by this admission.”
Grammer tells Parade that he wants people to read his book and understand more about his sister Karen. He further states that he still mourns her loss, and she was a great girl.
“I want people to read the book. I want them to love the book. I love Karen. I want them to meet my sister," said Grammer. "She was a terrific girl. And that's the consensus with all the old friends that I've been able to speak to — how lovely she was and how fond people were of her. That's been a great discovery."
