Martin Cummins is honoring his late friend and When Calls the Heart co-star Nathaniel Pelletier.
Pelletier died at the age of 53, and he was most renowned for having worked on the show as a transport department employee and actor. US Weekly has reported that he met his demise on April 11 at his home in Langley, British Columbia. He was alone at the time, and his cause of death remains unclear.
“He touched many lives with his generosity and extraordinary work ethic,” the obituary reads. “He was always there to lend a helping hand when needed and most times, before it was asked of him. He was charismatic and loved to meet new people, greeting them with his big smile and a warm hearty handshake.”
Martin Cummins, who stars as Henry Gowen in the Hallmark show, took to Instagram following the news of Pelletier's passing to pen a heartfelt tribute.
“Life is constantly changing. Things are never the same. The Valley will not be the same without Nathaniel Pelletier,” the actor concluded his post. “He was a gentle soul and it was my honor to call him friend.”
Nathaniel Pelletier's life and legacy explored as tributes come pouring in
In his Instagram post, Cummins wrote:
"I just came back from a ride on the bike [transportation captain Gord Alyward] and Nate put together for the girls and I. I’m taking shade in Mexico under the awning Nate helped me figure out in the woods near the old cabin. I have spent more hours at work sitting in the blue room, in silence or in conversation with Gord and Nate than I have standing on tape with the camera rolling. Gord has always felt like a father figure to me, and Nate and I were his boys running around the town, hanging out in the woods and talking s–t."
The official When Calls the Heart Instagram page also honored the late actor in the wake of his untimely demise:
“The When Calls the Heart family is mourning the loss of a beloved family member, Nathaniel 'Nate' Pelletier,” the tribute began.
“We know many Hearties also had the privilege of meeting Nate at the Hearties Family Reunion. He loved interacting with the fans and he brought so much joy to the day. We’d love for you to share your memories in the comments below,” it continued.
“We’re sending love to all who knew and loved him. He will be missed greatly.”
According to his obituary, Nathaniel Pelletier, who often embodied a taxi driver on the Hallmark show, referred to his “work-family” as his “second greatest love.”
Us Weekly has reported that Nathaniel Pelletier leaves behind his daughter, Myhrsades Jones; his brothers, Jeramie and Jason; his father, Perry Phillips; his mother, Yvonne Langevin; and his godmother, Lee DeGoede, among other close family relatives.
