Brad Pitt is on the cusp of making a long-standing Hollywood dream a reality. The ageless heartthrob recently revealed that before starring in the Formula One drama F1, a racing film had “been on his agenda for literally decades.” During a global press conference in Mexico City for the upcoming film and passion project for Pitt, the actor shared,

"For me, it was just a no-brainer when [Joseph Kosinski] had this audacious plan to embed us in the racing season, to put us actually in the cars. It was just a dream come true.”

He continued,

"I've been trying to do a racing film for literally decades. And whether it was on bikes or whether it was in cars, for whatever reason, it just didn't pan out. I'm so grateful because the experience Joe gave us, putting us in the car, putting us in this ecosystem of the F1 racing season, with all the drivers, with the teams, was just an extraordinary experience."

F1, an Apple Original Film, hits theaters June 27.

Brad Pitt discusses working on F1

While Brad Pitt has appeared in several high-octane action films, including Troy and Fight Club, he was quick to admit that getting behind the wheel of an F1 car was,

"nothing like I've ever experienced in all my decades doing this."

Fortunately, Pitt’s enthusiastic approach to the film has proved infectious. Damson Idris, Brad Pitt’s co-star, opened up to PEOPLE about their mentor-mentee relationship,

"It was a seamless dynamic between us. As soon as they'd yell, 'Cut,' we both sat at our seats and giggled. He'd be telling me stories of when he first met Prince and Sidney Poitier. And I'm like, 'Oh my God, this is just too iconic, you're a walking monument.'"

Idris continued to heap praise on his castmate,

"I always say he's the most humble person and such a brilliant actor, and he wants you to win. And he did that for me the entire movie, made a point of having the two characters be equals, so I'm incredibly indebted to him and I can't wait for people to see it."

The upcoming F1 film is directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the very team behind the 2022 super-hit Top Gun: Maverick. The story focuses on Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a former driver making a comeback to the sport.
