Singer Bobby Brown, during his appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, spilled a previously unknown secret about his iconic haircut from the 1980s, one he now revealed happened because of a mistake. He said:

"It was a mistake that turned out to be great."

Bobby Brown, who rose to fame in the late 1970s as one of the founding members of the Grammy-nominated hip hop group New Edition, also touched upon how the band is looking forward to going on tour in the upcoming months.

More from Bobby Brown's interview, as singer reveals a new detail about his once iconic haircut

Bobby Brown, during his appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show on 19 May, recalled how the so-called "mistake" happened. He added that while at the barber shop, the "My Prerogative" singer suddenly looked in the opposite direction, which caused the barber to cut his hair in a slanted manner, resulting in the famous "Gumby haircut." He said:

"That was a mistake. I was at the barbershop and I looked the wrong way while he was cutting my hair. I was looking at somebody and I shouldn't have been. But he cut my hair the wrong way and I left it."

In the years since then, Bobby Brown had always thought his hairstyle was something unique. But it was not until a few years back, when he visited the house of late music producer Quincy Jones, that he came to know the truth. During his conversation with Jennifer Hudson, she suggested the hairstyle as something only he would carry and something that was original to him. She said:

"That was your swag."

The "Cool It Now" singer further added that when he visited the house of the Grammy-winning producer, he saw a picture of a man who was Quincy Jones' great-grandfather, and the man had the same hairstyle as him. Bobby Brown hilariously added that at first, he thought that Quincy Jones' great-grandfather was in fact trying to copy his hairstyle. He said:

"But later on in life, I went to the late, great Quincy Jones' house, and I saw a picture on his wall, and it was his great-grandfather, who had a haircut just like that. And I'm like, 'This old man trying to jack my style.

That is when Quincy Jones explained that this style had actually been around for quite some time. Only then did Bobby Brown come to the conclusion that there was nothing overwhelmingly original about his now iconic hairstyle that was featured in many of his music videos. He said:

"[Quincy] was like, 'Ain't nobody trying to jack nothing. That hairstyle has been in rotation, it's been out for so long.' [So] I stole his hairstyle,"

During his conversation with Jennifer Hudson, Bobby Brown also opened up about the pain of suddenly losing his children and his ex-wife, Whitney Houston, over the past decade, adding that these losses have prompted him to seek therapy to help him heal.
