James Marsden recently spoke to Vanity Fair about shooting for Avengers: Doomsday. He said,

“I’m getting a little long in the tooth to put on the superhero costume. I was excited because you’re a part of something gigantic, and I’ve spent 20 years listening to people say, ‘When are you coming back? When are you coming back? Are you coming back?'”

He further added,

“I’m dead. Well, maybe not. I’m going to have a tough time struggling to get into costume if they waited a couple more years. So it’s been a blast. It really has. It’s been a nice little homecoming to a role that really put me on the map. It was the first real event project that I was ever a part of, and a very beloved character, this icon from the comics. And so to step back into that role was pretty special.”

Marsden will be playing Scott Summers / Cyclops in the upcoming film. He first played the character in the 2000 film X-Men, which was directed by Bryan Singer. The actor reprised his role in its sequels, X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand. He also did a cameo in 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Meanwhile, Avengers: Doomsday will be a part of the MCU's phase six, and it will focus on several superhero teams coming together to face off against Doctor Doom. The villain is played by Robert Downey Jr., who had played Tony Stark/Iron Man in the earlier phase of the franchise.

Other cast members of the film include Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Sebastian Stan, and Patrick Stewart, as well as Ian McKellen, among others.
