Iconic pop star Pat Benatar still has some of her most legendary outfits from the 1980s in her archives.

In an exclusive interview with People Magazine, Benatar, who was present at WhyHunger’s 50th Anniversary Chapin Awards Gala in New York City, reflected on which of her prized clothing items she has saved.

The 72-year-old revealed she still has the "striped shirt ... from [my] first video on MTV," referring to the top she had on in the music video of her song, You Better Run. Noting that the youngest daughter she shares with Neil Giraldo, Hana Giraldo, 31, still asks for it often, Pat Benatar said:

"Our youngest daughter begs for it every week, but we hide it. It's in a frame, and she can't have it."

In other news, Pat Benatar and her husband, Neil Giraldo, 69, made headlines recently when they got candid about what it takes to make a marriage last. The Grammy-winning rock legends have been married for over four decades, and during the same interview with People Magazine, they revealed how:

"We've learned how to be quiet and still be in the same room together and not have to talk to one another, and that's good," Giraldo told the outlet. Benatar chimed in, "We never go to bed angry."

Giraldo teased:

“A marriage rule? What, you're always right? Yeah, that used to be a thing, but we don't do that anymore." Benatar replied, "But it worked for so long."

The pair first met back in 1979. Their partnership kicked off not long after, both romantically and professionally. Giraldo served as Benatar's lead guitarist. By 1982, they tied the knot. Over the years, they welcomed two children: Haley, 40, and Hana, 31. They are also grandparents to Stevie, Lola, and Cash.

During a 2022 interview with Vulture, Pat Benatar reflected on how her style had a massive impact on her career. Noting how she sought to establish an “aggressive stage presence” in the 1970s, she recalled changing her outfit one time:

"I went up in this little leotard with black tights and short boots and big eye makeup. I always wore makeup, but not like that," Benatar said. "I sang the same songs that I’d performed for two years, and the audience went insane. I remember standing there going, What’s happening here? Is everyone drunk? Is it too late?' So I did it again the next night toned down,” she continued.

She further told the outlet,

“I didn’t have the ray gun, but I kept the makeup and tights, and I wore something that had a little more fabric. The same thing happened. I did this for ten subsequent nights, and I thought, 'That’s it. I cracked it.' "

Pat Benatar admitted that her fashion choices not only had an impact on her audience, but on her as well:

“The audience changed how they reacted. But I changed, because I was wearing a costume, and I became another persona, which was always part of who I was anyway,” she explained. “But now I had it on the outside. It looked like what it felt like.”

The pair was honored with the ASCAP Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award for their commitment to using their platform to spark change and harbor social justice. WhyHunger bestowed them with the award, an organization that aims to end hunger.

At the ceremony, the pair spoke to Woman's World about how important the award is to them:

“We’ve been involved with the Chapin family and WhyHunger for over 30 years,” Pat Benatar told the outlet. “The organization is amazing, and children’s issues are our cause. There’s so much to do to improve the lives of children around the world, and we’ve loved the Chapin family forever.”

Giraldo echoed:

“When you get the details of how many people are starving out there, it’s just ridiculous."

In her speech while accepting the award, Pat Benatar, who is most known for hits like Love Is a Battlefield, Hit Me with Your Best Shot, and Promises in the Dark, noted:

“We feel like we haven’t even done enough to deserve [this award]. We hope that we can do so much more. I just want to say that food is love and love always wins. Even though everything seems like it’s going to hell out there, remember this night. We’re all in this together, and together we can make miracles.”
