Harris Dickinson is making a personal confession about how it's "frightening" to step into John Lennon's shoes for the upcoming Beatles biopic. Sam Mendes' highly ambitious Beatles project is bringing together four great actors from this generation who will portray the Fab Four on screen in a four part series of films.
In an interview with The Times, the Babygirl actor opened up about playing John Lennon in the film, as he talked about how the magnitude of the singing legend's character has him staring down a storm, but that he also considers it a privilege to be able to portray him in the film. Talking about the role, Dickinson said,
“It felt frightening because of the magnitude of the character — this icon. There’s always a fear, but the fear around the exposure that will come with it didn’t creep in too much because it is a privilege that I get to do this every day. And, yes, I’ll still go to the forest.”
Dickinson is best known for his work in films like King's Man, Triangle of Sadness and Scrapper. With his role alongside Nicole Kidman in Babygirl being the one that pushed him into the spotlight. The untitled Beatles project would certainly be a career defining one for him, as he is joined by Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn and Barry Keoghan as the counterparts of the band.
Back in 2024 when rumors about the film being under development were swirling but the castings had not been announced yet, Dickinson had coyly addressed the role as he spoke to Variety, where he said,
“It would be amazing to do that. I think the idea of Sam teaming up to do something like that would be incredibly exciting. Obviously, John Lennon is a very complex role, a pretty formidable force to try to do. It would be cool.”
More details about the Beatles biopic
For decades, the idea of a Beatles biopic has felt like a pipe dream. The sheer cost of music rights, combined with the band's almost mythical legacy, made it nearly impossible for filmmakers to imagine. But now, Sony Pictures and director Sam Mendes are proving otherwise, preparing to deliver not one but four interconnected films about the Fab Four, each told through the eyes of a different band member.
Dickinson is playing John Lennon, joined by Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. The band's own company Apple Corps is also on board for the project, granting full access to both life rights and the legendary music catalog. This means the films can finally weave their story using the songs that defined generations, a luxury no past Beatles-related biopic has enjoyed.
All four movies are slated to hit theaters in April 2028, billed by Sony as the first "binge-able theatrical experience." Plot details are under wraps as of now, and more information is awaited.
