Nicole Ari Parker, the Soul Food alum, is about to start a new chapter in her life. In a recent interview with US Weekly, the 54-year-old actress opened up about moving to New York City with her husband, Boris Kodjoe. Parker made her acting debut in Maria Maggenti's critically acclaimed indie comedy-drama film, The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love, released in 1995.

After spending 17 years in California, Parker and her husband decided to return to the Big Apple. She had previously lived in New York City for nearly 13 years while studying at NYU. She also spent three years living in Atlanta.

The Almost Christmas actress met her husband, the 52-year-old Boris Kodjoe, on the set of Soul Food while they were shooting in Toronto. She shares two children with him: a son, Nicolas, who is a professional basketball player in Germany, and a daughter, Sophie, who is attending Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Nicole opened up to US Weekly two weeks after moving to New York City. She said:

"It’s going to be so fun."

After moving to a big city like New York, when Parker was asked about how she felt personally and professionally, the actress said:

"Any actor will tell you it’s always exciting when you’re working. I love what I do, I love to work, and I’m really happy. To be able to do theater as well β€” it’s my dream situation."

With an acting career that spans over thirty years, Parker has been in all kinds of projects, including films, television shows, and theater. While she made her debut in the '90s with Maggenti's indie comedy-drama, she has worked with well-established and senior actors like Denzel Washington and Sarah Jessica Parker. She has worked in Boaz Yakin's sports drama film Remember the Titans alongside Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington.

Not to mention, Parker was also a part of critically acclaimed director Paul Thomas Anderson's cult classic comedy drama Boogie Nights, which was released in 1997. Besides that, she has been in several popular television shows like And Just Like That... (which is a Sex and the City spinoff), Empire, and Soul Food. Being a successful actress herself, Parker was asked if she had ever worried about getting old in a profession in which age matters. She said:

"No. And we say that, but every job I’ve had, there’s been a grown-up woman who’s the executive producer, a grown-up woman who is running the studio or an executive there, the director of the particular show or episode. I’ve never been in a situation where I felt thwarted, slighted or held back."

When she was asked if things were still evolving for her, Parker added:

"It's not that it’s changing; it’s changed. It’s normal. I’m in that zone of time of remembering other actors saying that, but as soon as I really got in my stride, the industry was changing. Only thing, though, I get a lot of calls to be somebody’s mama, and I’m just like, OK, I know that I actually am someone’s mom, but I don’t necessarily get a lot of calls [for roles as] the president, although in my house, I’m the president. I’m playing someone’s mom this summer."
