Vera Wang has just turned 76. Before her birthday on June 27, the iconic fashion designer had a conversation with People Magazine to promote her new fragrance line. When the topic of age and her birthday came up, Vera shared some insights on how she approaches aging gracefully,
"After my 75th last year, I said, 'Maybe, you don't have to celebrate after 75.'"
She continued,
"A lot of my friends don't want to. They say, 'I'm too old.' I said, 'It's not about being old. It's about being here and living, and we should celebrate that.’ But you have to celebrate every year that you're alive. That's just how I feel."
Ultimately, Vera Wang hosted a chic Parisian brunch to celebrate, proving that age is nothing but a number. Her new fragrance, Love Eau De Parfum, is available to purchase now.
Vera Wang's upcoming projects
Vera Wang struck a deal to sell her brand last year. The designer negotiated terms of sale with WHP Global and will stay on as chief creative officer as part of the agreement. In a phone interview with Vogue, Wang shared her thoughts on the move,
“It was the right combination for me and at the right time. WHP is in full growth mode, and there’s such an energy within what they’re doing and their ambition, passion and dedication, and I really feel very fortunate that they believe so much in me and my brand.”
According to People Magazine, she has retained an integral role in terms of partnerships, including in the jewelry space with Zales and Jarred Jewelers.
Clearly, retirement is not on the horizon for Vera Wang, who spoke about her future as it pertains to running her businesses,
“I think maybe a little bit like Warren Buffett [age 93] or Queen Elizabeth II [who ruled the British monarchy for seven decades until she died at age 96], I'm just going to keep prodding on because I feel as though I'm able to do my best work more and more. I'm really trying to respect that in me, that voice in me, that I feel very happy to be creating. That's what it's all about, really.”
Aside from that, Vera Wang is certainly renowned for her bridal work and is in the throes of preparing for the summer season. She has 30 looks and fittings to contend with, not to mention her daughters as well,
"When you have daughters, they become your consultants on their friends' wedding gowns. Trust me."
Vera Wang's legacy is already tremendous, and her next chapter promises to extend that even further.
