Mandy Moore is likely best known for her singing and acting careers, highlighted by her acclaimed performance in the hit series, This Is Us. Recently, however, Moore made the news cycle for reasons other than her entertainment chops, as she spoke out publicly about the current state in Los Angeles after the devastating wildfires that struck in January. Moore's comments were specifically aimed at the red tape preventing residents to rebuild their homes, now that the threat has been mitigated.

The Entourage alum called the bureaucratic hurdles "maddening and heartless" via social media on her Instagram story. Per Yahoo News, she wrote in her post:

"Thanks, LA County, for making it as frustrating and impossible to rebuild after the fires as possible, shouldn't be surprised, but it's mind-boggling the red tape and hoops they're putting us all through."

In a second statement aimed to clear up any confusion on her stance, Moore went on to say,

“It’s maddening and heartless … the endless hoops and meaningless protocol LA County is asking of fire victims who want to rebuild and get their lives back. Wasn’t California going to make this as easy as possible?”

The star then added, clearly and understandably disheartened,

“We JUST finished construction in November and the fact that we’re back at square one is heartbreaking enough …”

According to official reports from The New York Times, at least 30 people died as a result of the fires and thousands more have been affected by the devastation that swept through the Los Angeles area. The events that started on January 7, 2025 were the worst winter wildfires in Southern California in more than four decades, and the city is still reeling from their wrath.

As Moore and her family continue to try and piece back together their lives alongside their fellow Angelenos, she has also managed to get back to work. According to an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter (THR), she is set to star opposite comedian Nate Bargatze in the TriStar comedy, The Breadwinner. Co-written by Bargatze, the comedy’s synopsis was shared with THR. It says:

“The story sees the life of Bargatze’s character turned upside down when his supermom wife, played by Moore, lands a deal on Shark Tank. The lifelong breadwinner of the family becomes a stay-at-home dad, and quickly realizes he’s in way over his head.”

Hopefully the levity in which her upcoming project is grounded upon will serve as a welcome distraction from the current state of affairs in Los Angeles.
