After responding to a live Quidditch match that was broadcast on ESPNNEWS, NFL veteran and ESPN announcer Jason Kelce has sparked a hilarious online discussion. By referring to the players' outfit as "inappropriate" and sarcastically pushing for greater authenticity, the recently retired Philadelphia Eagles star made light of the way the sport is presented.
On Saturday, April 19, Kelce watched ESPNNEWS in anticipation of typical sports programming, but instead Jason Kelce saw a live Quidditch match, a sport based on the Harry Potter series. He tweeted:
“What’s happening on ESPNEWS, people are playing quidditch? It’s really weird, but I’m really just mad that they aren’t using actual brooms and dressed like wizards.”
He went on to criticize the reasoning of copying the magical game without fully embracing its mythical image:
“Like if we’re gonna do this, why not go all in on the wizarding world. These uniforms are inappropriate.”
The golden Snitch, which was a flying golden orb from the Harry Potter series was represented by a man wearing shorts with the word "snitch" printed on them.
Jason Kelce tweeted, misspelling the word “absolutely”:
“Oh my god, the Snitch is sbdolutrlh hilarious. Just a dude with the word snitch written on his shorts hahaha. What in the f***.”
Jason Kelce promptly corrected himself in a self deprecating manner. He tweeted:
“Woah did I have a stroke… absolutely*," before taking down the tweet.

The sport officially known as "Quadball" (previously known as "Muggle Quidditch"), the sport Kelce observed is played all over the world. In contrast to the magical version, the Snitch is a neutral player with a ball fastened to their waistline, and participants run with broomsticks between their legs. Quadball has a competitive leagues and even international championships, despite its peculiar appearance.
Life after the NFL for Jason Kelce

Jason Kelce, who spent 13 years with the Eagles before announcing his retirement from the NFL in the spring of 2024 has turned into broadcasting as a co-host on ESPN's Monday Night Countdown. Fans have embraced his move into the media, praising his candor, sense of humor, and exuberant attitude.
If he's not busy tweeting hilarious tweets, he is busy taking care of his girls, Wyatt (5), Elliotte (4), Bennett (2), and infant Finnley along with his wife Kylie Kelce, a former collegiate field hockey player.
Kelce discussed how his girls are beginning to take an interest in sports in an interview with People in January. He said:
“They already have the little sticks. But yeah, field hockey and lacrosse are two sports that I love, but they're not quite old enough for that yet. I want to get them back out on the ice this year because I like ice skating.”
And as a host, Jason Kelce is doing a pretty good job as the fans are enjoying the way he incorporats humor into football. It seems that with his growing popularity as a host, Kelce's retirement will also be as entertaining as his footballing career.
