As the Mission: Impossible franchise comes to an end, and so too does the story of Ethan Hunt, Tom Cruise has been going the extra mile while promoting the series’ final installment Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. On Sunday May 18, the 62 year old movie star made his presence felt at New York City’s Lincoln Center alongside his director and collaborator Christopher McQuarrie and cast mates, as the entire crew united to celebrate the movie's U.S. premiere.

While on the red carpet, Cruise was approached by several media outlets to give his views on his final turn as Hunt. A reporter from PEOPLE approached the action hero about his time on the franchise and he gave a candidly thoughtful response.

"I did the best you can, and it's representing all the efforts of everyone involved at that particular moment. I looked at it and I really see what it takes to make these movies and what I've learned about storytelling [in] this particular genre."

Tom Cruise opens up at Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning U.S. premiere

Cruise famously has done all of his own stunt work on the franchise, and it’s this dedication that has endeared the films to its die hard fans over the years. There seems to be no feat, mental or physical, Tom won’t endure if it enhances the audience’s experience, a standard few actors have ever held themselves to in the history of filmmaking.

At the Lincoln Center U.S. premiere, Cruise also gushed about Michael B. Jordan, who was a surprise attendee and guest at the film’s UK launch event. Cruise was certainly effusive with his praise for his younger counterpart saying it was "wonderful" to see his and director Ryan Coogler’s success with Sinners, one of the standout films of 2025. The Top Gun Maverick star continued with his thoughtful compliments, adding his openness to collaborate with anyone as long as he can sense their commitment and passion.

“He's enormously talented. He's a great actor. He's dedicated to his craft. I really respect him.I love to see people do well in life. I’ve worked very hard to do all I can to help people, see them do well — filmmakers, actors. People know my door is always open."

The latest Mission: Impossible movie will engage in the wildly difficult task of wrapping up nearly 30 years of plot twists into its final narrative. Hopefully, with Cruise at the helm the pay off will be a satisfactory one for audiences. Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning will release worldwide in theaters May 23.
