Even after being in the industry for decades, Jennifer Lawrence feels just as anxious while working hard on a new film that has an unsure outcome. The actress, who recently starred alongside Robert Pattinson in Die, My Love, is opening up on the pain behind working on a project that doesn't receive the best of audience reactions.
Speaking to V Magazine, Lawrence talked about how she spends a few scary moments being unsure of fans' reception to the film she's working on an as she said,
βThe experience only adds to the dread, because Iβve had so many experiences of working so hard on something, loving something so deeply, and then releasing it to the world, and the world just being like, βBoo! Hate you!β It is so awful. And [yet] somehow, I read a script, I meet with the director, we get on set, we start doing it, and somehow Iβm able to forget that this part of the process will happen. I mean, Iβm very blessed and very lucky. But itβs a very scary few months.β
She then talked about how se had to explain this to her husband who loved the film as she explained why she fears fans may not understand what the film is trying to tell. "He was like, βBut the movieβs incredible.β" she says, "And I was like, βI know, but that doesnβt matter. People might not get it.β
What is Jennifer Lawrence's Die, My Love about?
Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence's Die, My Love brings a sharp and unsettling blend of comedy and drama, brought by Lynne Ramsay. Teaming up with Alice Birch and Enda Welsh for the script, Ramsay's film is an adaptation of the eponymous novel by Ariana harwicz. The story revolves around Lawrence's Grace, a young mother slipping into postpartum depression as her partner jackson, played by Pattinson falls into the spiral with her. Joining them in the film are Lakeith Stanfield, Nick Nolte, Sissy Spacek, Gabriella Rose, Debs Howard, Sarah Lind and Marcus Della Rosa.
Jennifer Lawrence's Grace is one of the best things about the film. She and Jackson arrive in a fragile, intimate world shaped by new motherhood, exhaustion, and the pressure of rural isolation. Graceβs mental state begins to fracture as she tries to raise her newborn, and Jackson, already stretched thin by his own struggles, becomes tangled in the chaos. Their relationship begins to warp under the weight of unspoken fears, unsatisfied desires, and the kind of loneliness that settles deep in the chest.
Die, My Love made it's first appearance at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it opned to much praise and earned a Palme d'Or nomination as it walked away with positive reviews from critics, particularly for Jennifer Lawrence's performance as Grace. Later on, the film released in theaters through Mubi in November.
Die, My Love is currently in theaters.
