The script was written by Josh Cooley.

After nearly four years, we have a long-awaited update on the film. Johansson said that the film is finally moving forward. In a recent interview, the actress said,

"It’s taking shape!”

This news will surely excite all the fans of the namesake ride who have been waiting for the film.

Scarlett Johansson shares update on Tower of Terror film adaptation

Scarlett Johansson recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly, providing an update on the Tower of Terror movie. She mentioned that the film has been difficult to crack.

“It’s a hard nut to crack. Harder than you think, because the ride itself, there’s some lore to it, but it’s… I don’t want to say thin, but it is, kind of!”

The actress said that the ride lacks enough material for a feature film. She added,

“That’s part of the mystery of the ride. It’s been a fun project to work on, because it’s a blue sky project. It has also proved to be a hard nut to crack. But, we’ll crack the case of it. It’s taking shape!”

The Tower of Terror opened in 1994 at Disney World. It is a thrill ride centered around the Hollywood Tower Hotel, inspired by The Twilight Zone. The ride was made into a feature film in 1997, with D.J. MacHale writing and directing. The film focuses on a journalist investigating the 1939 case where five people disappeared. Most of the filming took place in the actual theme park.

Meanwhile, Johansson recently starred in the espionage dark comedy film The Phoenician Scheme. She will next be seen in Jurassic World: Rebirth, scheduled for release on July 2, 2025.

Johansson also directed and co-produced the drama film Eleanor the Great, which had its world premiere at this year's Cannes Film Festival. As a producer, she has supported films like the 2011 documentary The Whale, 2021's superhero film Black Widow, and 2024's historical romance Fly Me To The Moon.
