Thunderbolts*’s promising debut at the box office and rave reviews have reaffirmed the claims of MCU’s return. Along with the positive reception, the Florence Pugh-starrer has also become the talk of the town for its mid-credits title transition and post-credits scene.

Marvel execs have seemingly decided to acknowledge the significant revelation to the public within a few days of the movie’s release. A user (@Fantastic1309) posted a picture of a Thunderbolts billboard getting painted over with the title “The New Avengers,” which was revealed in the movie before the mid-credits scene.

The mid-credits title drop is one of the most talked-about moments from the latest Marvel movie. However, many on the Internet thought that painting over Thunderbolts* with *The New Avengers was a bit early, considering the film’s recent release.

“This is cool but I wish they had waited even a full week after release,” a user wrote.
“They said "spoiler free period past two days now",” another user added.
“Had to go down and see it for myself. Insane they’re doing this opening weekend!,” someone posted a picture of the billboard.
“Yeah I give up on trying to avoid the spoilers at this point lol,” another one wrote.

A user wrote about how the makers should have acknowledged the new title in the next phase of promotions.

“This looks like a phase 2 of marketing play for the movie. I didn’t expect them to do it this soon.”

Another user shared a similar opinion while praising the marketing team,

“I mean the marketing team kinda cooked but shouldn't they have waited a little longer 😭”

Someone wrote,

“The marketing team is like 'great job guys, now onto the next project'”

Thunderbolts* released worldwide last week and has received acclaim. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has received 88% favorable reviews from critics, while the Popcornmeter is at 94%. On Metacritic, the latest MCU flick has a Metascore of 68. In its opening weekend, the film grossed more than $162M worldwide.

Thunderbolts* stars Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Lewis Pullman, Hannah John-Kamen, and more. The main cast, constituting the team of anti-heroes, will return in future projects, as confirmed by an onscreen message after the post-credits scene:

"THE NEW AVENGERS AND BOB WILL RETURN”

Much of the primary cast, including Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, and more, has already been confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, which hits the theaters next year.

Thunderbolts* also marks the end of Phase Five, as the next phase begins with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which will be released in July. It will star Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the members of the superhero team.
