"It sort of gave me the platform for who I am" - Sam Asghari on how his relationship with Britney Spears impacted his career

Britney Spears’ former partner Sam Asghari reflected on his past relationship with the Gimme More singer. He recently sat down with Page Six for a podcast, where the interviewer inquired if being known primarily through his past relationship with Britney Spears had helped or hindered his personal career development.

They asked if it was something he needed to overcome when seeking roles or if it was beneficial for gaining initial opportunities to showcase his abilities. Sam Asghari responded that he could not honestly say it had not been advantageous for him. He added:

“When you are in a public such a public relationship that gives you know that platform. So, it sort of gave me the platform for who I am. But I was going there anyway because I was already working.”

He and Britney Spears met while working together on a set. Sam Asghari was already starting as an actor at the time and had begun auditioning.

The model-cum-actor admitted that the relationship gave him more visibility, but it also meant he had to work even harder to prove himself in the industry. He went on:

“In the producer sessions, there was questions of ‘Oh, do we really want to, you know, hire someone that's a cheesy trainer?’ Because at the time I was also a trainer as well. That was my waiter job. ‘Do we want to give him a platform because he's a cheesy trainer?’ ‘Oh and he's you know he's associated with a pop star!’ which is also cheesy.”

The former couple was married for almost two years before officially parting ways in 2024. In 2022, Sam Asghari sat down for an interview with ABC, where he was asked about his married life.

He said the experience felt unreal, and they had always imagined their wedding to feel like a fairy tale. It turned out just the way they wanted, with a small group of close guests.

At the time, the reality of being a husband hadn’t fully sunk in for him. He shared that they enjoyed being spontaneous and often acted on impulse when making plans or decisions. Sam Asghari said,

“It's unreal. This is not something that I have ever thought of. So, that's definitely something that I am super grateful for.”

Sam Asghari said Britney Spears was incredibly humble and kind, and her positive energy was something he appreciated. He admitted that he didn’t gain much attention until their relationship gave him a bigger platform, and he was always grateful for that. He also mentioned

“I am very selective with the jobs that I am taking because everything I do is in the public eye and I want to be able to deliver the best performance being the best projects.”

However, he also pointed out that he had already been acting and working hard even before that. He didn’t take any of his opportunities for granted and tried to stay positive about everything happening in his life. He also shared how happy he felt with each job he took on throughout the year.
