Belarusian tennis star Aryna Sabalenka was surprised, yet found the whole moment sweet, when a couple got engaged in the middle of her August 29, 2025, match against Leylah Fernandez at the US Open.

Sabalenka, who has been in a romantic relationship with Georgios Frangulis, a Brazilian entrepreneur, since 2024, won the match by defeating Canadian tennis player Leylah Fernandez. It was Aryna Sabalenka's first win against Fernandez. She was previously defeated by Fernandez in 2021.

The August 29 match, which took place in Queens, New York, at Louis Armstrong Stadium, was over within 1 hour and 39 minutes. By defeating Fernandez, Sabalenka proceeded to the fourth round for the fifth consecutive year at the US Open.

"I looked at my boyfriend. No pressure!"

Sabalenka went ahead and said:

"I think it's the first time that someone proposed during my match, and it was a very sweet moment, but I was just trying not to start smiling, you know, because it's very cute and I believe they are super happy right now, but I was trying to keep focusing on my game."

While she expressed positive hopes for the couple, Sabalenka further added:

"It was a great moment, and as I said on the court, I wish them to have a happy marriage."
