Famed R&B singer Jaheim has been arrested and charged with six counts of animal cruelty in Georgia.

The Grammy-nominated artist, whose real name is Jaheim Hoagland, was taken into custody on May 1, 2025, in Fulton County, Georgia, according to jail records reviewed by Hot New Hip Hop. Authorities allege that Hoagland failed to provide proper water, sanitary living conditions, and adequate ventilation for six dogs under his care.

He owns four Pit Bull Terriers named Tweet, Tip, Taka, and Tink, a French bulldog named Timber, and a mixed-breed hound named Tanger. Hot New Hip Hop has further reported that he was released from custody the following day on a $35,000 bond.

Animal cruelty accusations levied against Jaheim are explored:

As reported by Atlanta News First, the investigation first began on April 27, 2025, when animal control received a report about a large, malnourished dog wandering aimlessly around the Buckhead Village District parking lot.

One of the animal welfare officers noticed another dog tied up and left alone at the back of an RV, as well as a man, who has since been identified as the musician. The individual had allegedly approached the officers “in an aggressive manner," accusing them of trespassing on his property.

The following day, cops and animal welfare officers teamed up to go back to the site to speak with Hoagland. They claim he filmed them and levied accusations of harassment against the officials as well. When probed about why his dog looked malnourished, he claimed it was because it was a juvenile.

However, officers reportedly stated that when they let the dog out of its kennel, it looked “severely emaciated” with its ribs protruding. On May 1, 2025, officers approached Hoagland again, which is when they came across puppies that had overgrown nails as well as three other dogs that were visibly malnourished.

Hot 97 reports that this isn't Jaheim's first brush with the law over animal welfare. Back in September 2021, he was cuffed in Hillsborough, New Jersey, after subjecting 15 dogs to a similar fate at his home, which, according to Atlanta News First, was described as “deplorable conditions.” At the time, cops had responded to a call about a distressed dog.

Upon arriving, officials came across several dogs locked up in crates and exposed to harsh living conditions. One of the dogs had to be euthanized due to extremely poor health. Some of the canines had been covered in their own waste. Officers also came across nine more dogs inside, most of whom had been left without access to food and water.

Complex has reported that the surviving dogs included 12 mixed-breed pit bull terriers, two American Staffordshire terriers, and a mixed-breed boxer. All these dogs were later put up for adoption.

At the time, Jaheim was charged with third-degree animal cruelty and several counts of failing to provide adequate care for his pets. However, Hot New Hip Hop has reported that although he was never penalized for the same, he did draw intense criticism online, attracting severe condemnation for his actions from animal groups

Jaheim, a three-time Grammy-winning artist, made headlines when he began touring with Keyshia Cole, Trey Songz, and K. Michelle for the Love Hard Tour last year. Before that, he had dropped his last album, Struggle Love, in 2016.
