Jake Gyllenhaal and Kevin Costner are finally taking Honeymoon With Harry out of development limbo and into production, with Amazon MGM Studios setting the A-list duo to star in the long-gestating dramedy. Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are directing from a script by Dan Fogelman and have previously worked together on Crazy, Stupid Love.

The film is adapting Bart Baker’s novel about a grieving groom who heads off on the honeymoon he never got to take, only to be joined by his would-be father-in-law after the bride dies two days before the wedding. It is a bittersweet two-hander tailor-made for movie stars, and this pairing is a vibe.

If the title sounds familiar, that is because Hollywood has been trying to make it for nearly two decades, with previous iterations orbiting Paul Haggis with Vince Vaughn and Jack Nicholson, then Jonathan Demme with Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro, and later a Nick Cassavetes draft.

Hopefully, this time the pairing will stick around and the movie will see the light of day. This will notably be the first time that Costner and Gyllenhaal are working together, and seeing both the actors' range and stardom, it would certainly be interesting to see what turn this film takes.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Kevin Costner walking into the same movie is the kind of casting that makes Hollywood feel alive again. Bustling amidst quite a few successful projects, Gyllenhaal has been having a great period of his career, and Honeymoon With Harry will probably be another feather on his shining cap.

His company, Nine Stories, currently holds a three-year first-look deal with Amazon MGM, cementing his role as one of the industry’s most bankable names. On the film front, Gyllenhaal is set to appear in M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller Remain and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s gothic reimagining The Bride! for Warner Bros. He also recently headlined Amazon MGM’s Road House remake, one of the platform’s biggest streaming successes, with a sequel already gearing up for production later this year.

Kevin Costner, meanwhile, remains a force both in front of and behind the camera. He most recently took on Horizon: An American Saga, his long-gestating Civil War epic, which he directed, produced, and starred in. The sprawling project is envisioned as a four-part saga, with two installments completed and the first released in theaters. With his Territory Pictures slate expanding, most recently with The Gray House, a Civil War espionage drama, Costner's career is booming, and it would be interesting to see how Costner switches genres for Honeymoon With Harry.

More details on Honeymoon With Harry are awaited for now.
