James Gunn is moving steady with The Brave and The Bold, and his latest comment on the upcoming film proves this. The director made an appearance on the 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast and gave fans a promising update on the film as he made sure to lift fans' expectations as he addressed the film's progress.
Speaking to Tom Segura on the podcast, the director opened up about the progress going on with the Batman project as he said that he refuses to move forward with any film unless he really loves the screenplay. Saying this, he dropped a little update for The Brave and The Bold as he added,
“I think we have a really, really good story now for what’s happening with Batman.”
It's a solid update, of course, and it means that things are going steady for the Batman projects at DC. Of late, Gunn has been addressing a lot of burning questions about the DC Batman projects. He recently revealed who he has in mind to play the caped crusader as he opened up about the casting on The Ringer-Verse and said,
"I mean, do I have ideas about actors to play Batman? Absolutely, I do. I have guys that I like, I have guys that are at the top of the list for me. Just like I had people who were at the top of the list for Superman…People can guess, and maybe they’ll be right about certain things, I don’t know."
More details about the The Brave and the Bold film
DC Studios' The Brave and the Bold is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing entries in James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe. Announced back in January 2023, the film is all set to introduce a different side of Batman to fans. Not the brooding hero we have seen in recent years, but a father navigating crime-fighting while raising his son Damian Wayne.
Andy Muschietti, who has previously worked on The Flash is set to helm the project and the director has already teased that the project "will take a while" as it's avoiding any conflict with Matt Reeves' Batman, which is set for a 2027 release date. During an interview with Radio TU show in January, Muschietti said,
“What DC is doing is creating a strategy to ensure these two films don’t conflict with each other. As for my participation in the film, there are good intentions. I want to make the movie and we’re talking about ideas and story and tone. I can’t say anything, but it’s going to be great, that’s what I can tell you for sure.”
James Gunn has previously talked about how The Brave and The Bold will have a broader presence from the Bat-family, which is an exciting update as this has not been done by anyone before. Fans may finally get to see characters like Dick Grayson, Barbara Gordon or even Cassandra Cain on screen with Batman. Although more information about the plot is limited now, we do know it will be, in Muschietti's words a "great" project.
More details about The Brave and The Bold are awaited as of now.
