James Gunn has a brand new update on one of the DCU's most anticipated projects, the Batman film called The Brave and the Bold. The Batman and Robin centric film has seen casual updates, rumors and clashes for a long time, as Gunn continues to assure fans that development on the film is going on steady. However, in a new interview, the director is opening up on how things have changed in the DCU for both the characters.

Talking to IGN about the upcoming project, James Gunn addresses Damien Wayne's inclusion in the film and gives a cryptic response as he says,

I think you have to wait to see the movie. Some things have changed. Plenty of things are in flux on what his situation is with his parentage and all that stuff, so I wouldn't take any of it – Yeah, I mean, the actor who wants to...

He then added how the roster for Batman is quite spread out as he continued,

"Listen, first of all, I can't tell you the amount of big actors that have told me they want to be Batman. I think you'd have a harder time finding actors who don't want to be Batman. He's the one character everyone wants to play. That's the truth. I think you have to wait to see exactly what's happening."

Andy Muschietti, who directed The Flash and wrangled multiple Batmen in one film, is set to direct. He’s been cautious about timelines though, noting that Reeves’ The Batman Part II has already shifted to 2027 and that Warner Bros. won’t release two Batman films at once. Muschietti admitted the project is “postponed a bit” as he explores another science fiction script, while James Gunn insists on BlueSky that the movie hasn’t been delayed, it simply isn’t “quite there” yet.

James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe roadmap promised a fresh slate and The Brave and the Bold may be one of the biggest highlights up there. Unlike Matt Reeves' saga with Robert Pattinson, this new chapter is set to introduce a different Batman, one that is already in his prime and a Robin that is quite unlike any we have seen before.

In June, James Gunn spoke to Rolling Stone about updates on the Batman film where he told the outlet,

“Batman has to have a reason for existing, right? So Batman can’t just be ‘Oh, we’re making a Batman movie because Batman’s the biggest character in all of Warner Bros.,’ which he is. But because there’s a need for him in the DCU and a need that he’s not exactly the same as [The Batman director] Matt [Reeves]’s Batman."

Expectations are enormous, not only for Batman and Damian but for the extended Bat-Family, which Peter Safran has confirmed will finally get their spotlight. That means we could see other Robins, Cassandra Cain, or Barbara Gordon, all long overlooked on the big screen. Villains are unconfirmed, but fans have been hoping to see some fan favorites finally making their on-screen debut.
