Jason Blum, known for his work behind Blumhouse Productions, has just given fans a disappointing update about the future of the Halloween franchise. As fans have continued to speculate for years, of whether Halloween Ends marks the end of Michael Myers' bloody reign, Blum finally explained what the end means and what future the series is looking at now.

In an interview with Variety, the producer answered whether he is done with the franchise, as he said,

"We don’t own the rights anymore. I had a three-picture deal. But I would do another “Halloween” movie."

This means that while Halloween Ends is very much the last chapter in the Blumhouse David Gordon trilogy, it is not necessarily the end of the Halloween series overall. Although it is the last film under Blum's banner as they don't have rights to the film anymore, there might be future continuations as Blum has expressed interest in doing another film.

Blum’s statement confirms that he and Blumhouse had a three-picture arrangement to reimagine the series starting with Halloween of 2018, continuing with Halloween Kills of 2021, and culminating in Halloween Ends of 2022. In previous comments he expressed interest in keeping Michael Myers alive in some form beyond Ends, saying he’d be “thrilled” to extend the series if Akkad were on board, but emphasized there are “currently no plans for us [Blumhouse] to be involved after this third movie.”

The Halloween franchise began in 1978 as a low-budget indie sinister slasher and later evolved into one of horror's most iconic sagas. The films follow Michael Myers, who became a murderer at 6 years old as he killed his sister Judy. He was then institutionalized for fifteen years and later escaped from Smith's Grove Sanitarium to terrorize the town of Haddeonfield, Illinois on every Halloween night.

The franchise consists of thirteen films, a number of novels, comics and even a video game, which cements Myers as one of the most prominent faces of modern horror. His relentless pursuit is often countered by Laurie Strode, a character brought to life by Jamie Lee Curti, and Dr. Samuel Loomis, played by Donald Pleasence.

Across its many continuities, Michael’s motivations ranged from pure evil to ancient curses, but his mythic endurance remained. The films’ combined box office surpasses $884 million, with Halloween reigning as the highest-grossing American horror franchise in adjusted dollars. Critics still hail Carpenter’s original as a genre masterpiece, while 2018’s sequel revived critical praise. With a television series now in development, Halloween continues to reinvent itself, proving that even after forty years, evil never truly dies.

The Halloween films are available to stream on Prime Video and Netflix.
