The White Lotus star Jason Isaacs has extended support for Tom Felton, who played the role of Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter series, over Felton's decision to reprise his role.
Isaac's support comes amidst audience bashing of author JK Rowling for her views on gender. Issacs also played Fleton's onscreen father, Lucius, in the film adaptation. Isaacs took to X to show support for Tom Felton, saying,
"Cant' wait, son. That'll be me in the front row with something in my eye."
In another tweet, Isaacs said,
"Tickets booked for November."
Tom Felton will be seen again in the role of Draco on Broadway for 19 weeks, from November 11. He was asked about his opinion on the controversy surrounding the author at the Tony Awards ceremony on June 8, when he said,
"I can't say it (impacts me), I'm not really that atturned to it."
He went on to add,
"I have not seen anything bring the world together more than Potter. She's responsible for that, so I'm incredibly grateful."
More about Tom Felton's support towards JK Rowling
Tom Felton, who has been appearing as Draco Malfoy in the film adaptation of JK Rowling's Harry Potter series, has shown support towards the author over the years, despite the author's homophobic and transphobic views.
In 2024, Daniel Radcliffe, who played the role of Harry Potter throughout the series, while talking to The Atlantic, expressed his opinions about Rowling's comments, saying,
"Because I do look at the person that I met, the times that we met, and the books she wrote, and the world she created, and all of that is to me so deeply emphatic."
Similarly, other stars who made up the main cast of the series, including Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, have shown their support for the trans community, saying that they "firmly stand with the trans community."
However, HBO has stood by the author's involvement in the new HBO reboot series, saying,
"J.K Rowling has a right to express her personal views. We will remain focused on the development of the new series, which will only benefit from her involvement."
Rowling has been publicly vocal about her stance on the trans community and other members of the LGBTQ+ community after she wrote an essay on her website in 2020, saying,
"When you throw open the doors of bathrooms and changing rooms to any man who believes he's a woman...you open the door to any and all men who wish to come inside."
She had also strongly opposed Scotland's gender recognition bill.
