Jason Momoa shares why he loves his Street Fighter role

Jason Momoa is leaning into his love for video games as he gushes over his Street Fighter role that has fans everywhere talking about it. After months of casting chatter, the actor finally attached himself to the live action adaptation of the video game, where Momoa is playing Blanka, a choice that signals that the movie wants big, physical energy and a dash of playful menace.

Speaking about why he loves the character of Blanka so much, Momoa told The Playlist how the video game has a special place in his heart as he plays it with his son. The Aquaman actor told the outlet,

There’s no one better to play Blanka, so that’s why I’m doing it. We’ll do what the audience would like to see — practical, CG — we’re gonna do our best. The cast is insane. My son and I play it; it’s the only game I played.

It's obvious with his excitement that it's a role he is looking forward to passionately. Momoa is known for his large scale roles in live action adaptations and if his past hits are any indication, then we're in for a wild, enthusiastic ride with Momoa bringing Blanka to life in the most iconic way.

Street Fighter is gearing up for it's high-octane return to the big screen with all the iconic characters coming to life. Directed by Kitao Sakurai with a fresh ensemble cast and a bold reboot energy, the film is being backed by Legendary Entertainment, which secured the live-action film rights in 2023.

The film stars Momoa as Blanka, with WWE icons Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes starring as Akuma and Guile. Curtis 50 Cent Jackson is adding in as Balrog with Orville Peck as Vega.
