About the venue for Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding

Back in March, Venice officials ended speculation about the location of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding by releasing a statement that confirmed that the couple would be hosting their nuptials in the city. The statement, shared by Associated Press, read:

“The many speculations and fake news circulating about Jeff Bezos’ wedding are completely unfounded.”

According to Associated Press, the city clarified that the billionaire and his fiancée would host around 200 guests and would avoid disrupting any day-to-day or tourist activity in Venice. While noting that the city has the capabilities of hosting events much larger than the wedding, the city dispelled concerns about disruptions and stated,

“Venice is used to being the stage for events and shows every week, without significant impacts.”

Further, Associated Press noted that the mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, dismissed doubts as he said,

“We are mutually working and supporting the organizers, to ensure that the event will be absolutely respectful of the fragility and uniqueness of the city.”

As per People Magazine, doubts as to the exact venue of the wedding still remain. Earlier, reports speculated that the couple might tie the knot on a $500 million yacht owned by Bezos. The publication also stated that other notable venues in Venice, such as San Giorgio Maggiore (an island) or a waterfront building called Scuola Grande della Misericordia, might serve as venues for the much-anticipated wedding.

Some residents of Venice are protesting against Jeff Bezos’ wedding in their city

While fans and onlookers all over the world are gearing up to witness the extravagant wedding hosted by one of the richest men in the world, Jeff Bezos, a few residents of Venice are reportedly unhappy with their city being used for the wedding.

According to CNN, a few protestors hung up banners reading, “No Space for Bezos” over the city, especially around locations rumored to be the venue such as San Giorgio Maggiore and the Misericordia. The news channel reported that one of the organizers of the protest said,

“We will block the canals, line the streets with our bodies, block the canals with inflatables, dinghies, boats.”

However, Bezos and Sánchez’s wedding organizers, Lanza & Baucina Limited, responded to the news of the protestors by emphasizing that they were given explicit instructions to not disrupt daily activity in the city. In a statement shared by Page Six, the organizers said,

“From the outset, instructions from our client and our own guiding principles were abundantly clear: the minimising of any disruption to the city, the respect for its residents and institutions and the overwhelming employment of locals in the crafting of the events.”

In fact, Associated Press also reported that the couple employed local pastry maker Rosa Salva, as well as Murano glass blower Laguna B.

According to Page Six, Lanza & Baucina Limited also shared that Bezos and Sánchez had already donated to charities based in Venice in anticipation of their wedding. In their statement, they added,

“Before the recent news of protests arose, we had worked for there to be minimal negative impact or disruption to the lives of Venetians and the city’s visitors. We have always acknowledged the wider debate and critical issues surrounding the city’s future, and from the outset our client has been honoured to support the city and its all-important lagoon through non-profit organisations and associated projects.”

Meanwhile, the dress that Sánchez will be wearing as a bride is said to be under wraps for the moment. People Magazine noted that Anna Wintour is rumored to be helping the bride pick a dress. Earlier, Sánchez, while speaking on the Today show, emphasized that she is making use of Pinterest to better organize her ideas.
