Jeremy Allen White is opening up on his role in the upcoming Star Wars film The Mandalorian & Grogu as Rotta the Hutt, who is the son of Jabba the Hutt. It's an iconic role for sure, and White is teasing how Rotta is similar to his Dad Jabba.
During an appearance on the Graham Norton Show, the actor talked about his role, while also teasing a team-up with the Mandalorians as he said,
"He's just a bit broader, but still like, um, a Hutt. Yes. It's kind of like him and the Mandalorian running around for, for a lot of the movie together. Rotta can move quickly, yes."
In another interview with Good Morning America, White spoke about how he landed the role after a conversation with Jon Favreau, who is directing The Mandalorian & Grogu, as he said,
"It’s funny, I met Jon Favreau, who directed the film and the series prior. And I’ve been such a huge fan of Jon’s for a very long time. So we started talking about movies, and I was asking about Swingers. And he said, 'Would you like to come in and maybe talk to me about doing just a voice-over for Star Wars?' I said, 'I love Star Wars. I’d be so happy to' I discovered kind of in the moment almost the weight of the kind of character I was voicing."
More details about The Mandalorian & Grogu
The Mandalorian and Grogu marks a major return to the galaxy far, far away under Jon Favreau's vision and a project he has been working on for almost a decade. Set to release in 20226, the film continues the story of The Mandalorian, reuniting fans with Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin and his irresistibly mysterious ward, Grogu.
The film follows Djarin and Grogu as they get enlisted by the New Republic to help stabilize a fractured galaxy that has been attacked by Imperial warlords. Joining Pascal in the film are Sigourney Weaver as Colonel Ward, a seasoned New Republic leader, Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt and Jonny Coyne as a ruthless Imperial remnant commander. Filoni himself returns as Trapper Wolf, with familiar figures such as Zeb Orrelios from Star Wars Rebels and the tiny Anzellans from The Rise of Skywalker also making appearances.
The Mandalorian & Grogu's existence is almost an act of destiny. Back in 2017, Favreau pitched his Mandalorian concept to Kathleen Kennedy, who paired him with Filoni. What started as a streaming experiment became a cultural phenomenon, and when Hollywood Strikes delayed season four in 2023, Lucasfilm made the bold call to go cinematic. Filming wrapped in California by December 2024, promising bigger stakes but the same intimate heart.
The Mandalorian & Grogu will be in theaters on May 22, 2026.
