Jessie J health issues explored as singer reveals cancer diagnosis

British pop star Jessie J has disclosed that she has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer, adding yet another chapter to her lengthy saga of health issues.

The 37-year-old musician announced the news in an emotional Instagram video, in which she detailed her diagnosis and her forthcoming surgery to remove the nodules fully. She also talked about her intention to step back from the limelight in order to process the diagnosis.

According to Women's Health Magazine, this isn’t the first time Jessie J, whose birth name is Jessica Ellen Cornish, has had to fight major health battles. She was diagnosed with a heart condition as a child and had a stroke at the age of 17, not long after she graduated from the BRIT School and signed her first record deal.

She also went deaf suddenly in 2018 due to the causes of Ménière’s disease, a condition of the inner ear that can result in hearing and balance problems. Jessie experienced a miscarriage in 2021, something she has since openly talked about.

"You know, losing a child is the worst thing, and I hate that so many people go through it because it is such a difficult experience to get through," she told The Mirror.

Now the mother of a young son, Sky, she recently reflected on the anxieties that come with motherhood and how her traumas have shaped her perspective on life.

In 2024, Jessie J also disclosed that she had been diagnosed with ADHD and OCD and that the diagnoses had provided her with a new understanding of how her brain works and how she operates in the world.

Jessie J stated that the diagnosis came after a while of undergoing countless medical tests. Despite the sudden diagnosis, she stated that he is still hopeful due to the fact that it was found out early and not in the later stages of the disease.

"I was diagnosed with early breast cancer. I'm highlighting the word early. Cancer s*cks in any form but I'm holding on to the word early. I have been in and out of tests throughout this whole period." She said in her Instagram post.

Even after being diagnosed with the disease, Jessie J seems to be staying in a positive mindset. She even joked about the diagnosis, saying:

"I mean you can't make it up. It's a very dramatic way to get a b**b job."

In her post, the singer stated that she will still perform at Capital's Summertime Ball and will have a break for surgery and recovery following the event. She said that being public about her diagnosis was her way of coming to terms with the disease and connecting to others who may be dealing with similar challenges.
