Former American Football Quarterback, John Elway, will not be charged for his friend and business partner's Jeff Sperbeck's, golf cart death. Jeff fell from a golf cart Elway was driving at an after-party event at the Stagecoach County Music Festival on April 28. Sperbeck hit his head on the pavement after falling from the golf cart and suffered a traumatic head injury.
Sperbeck was immediately taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs and put on life support. However, the Riverside County Coroner's Office noted that Sperbeck succumbed to the "blunt head trauma" injury after 1 a.m on April 30.
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco on July 11 announced that the incident was a "tragic accident," and while speaking to 9News said,
"It's over. We've talked to everyone involved and we found nothing new. There was nothing criminal, it was what we've been saying all along that this was a tragic accident."
While talking about the 911 call Elway made, Bianco said,
"I listened to the entire 911 call. He was very articulate. He was very responsive. He was not slurring his wods. He was not hesitating in his response with the dispatcher. It was a normal urgent conversation."
Sperback was John Elway's business partner and began managing his business affairs in 1990. He oversaw John Elway's business affairs, his restaurants, car dealerships, winery, and other interests. Sperback and Elway together cofounded the winery 7Cellars. On the company website, Sperbeck is described as "an NFL-certified advisor who has represented over 100 NFL football players throughout his 30-year career as a football agent and business advisor."
What has John Elway said about his business partner Jeff Sperbeck's death?
The two-time Super Bowl champion, John Elway, while speaking to ESPN at the time of his business partner Jeff Sperbeck's death, said,
"There are no words to truly express the profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me. My heart and deepest sympathies go out to Jeff's wife, Cori; his children Carly, Sam and Jackson; and everyone who knew and loved him. Jeff will be deeply missed for the loyalty, wisdom, friendship and love he brought into my life and the lives of so many others."
Ali Simon, a witness while speaking to KESQ at the time of Sperbeck's death, noted that when he got to the location, Sperbeck was lying on the ground, with people around him making sure he was okay. Simon noted that the scene was "so sad" and their "hearts just go out to the families."
