The funeral of “So You Think You Can Dance” star Joshua Allen became the center of a tense moment last weekend. A fight broke out during the service, and the incident was captured on video, which subsequently spread online. His girlfriend, Dy’Zetta Brown, is now sharing her side of what happened.

Brown says she went to the funeral because she was invited by some members of Allen’s family. She walked toward the casket to say goodbye. That was when she says an aunt on Allen’s mother’s side grabbed her from behind.

Police were called to the funeral twice that day. Brown says the fight seen in the viral clip occurred after the police first arrived. According to her, the family told officers she had a restraining order against Allen. Brown says she did not hide the order, but she was allowed to stay.

Dy’Zetta Brown explained what led to the funeral incident

Brown says she returned to her seat after the first police visit. Later, she went back to the casket after giving the family space to grieve without distraction. She says she only wanted a moment to say goodbye.

She confirms she once had a protective order against Allen. She says the order was active for 90 days, from July until September 22. She says it came from a mental health incident. Brown says she told the police she did not want Allen jailed, only that she had helped. She claims the decision was not hers.

She says, “I had no control over that decision.”

Brown says online claims that she was Joshua Allen’s ex-girlfriend are false. She says they were still together. According to her, they had been in a relationship for nearly four years. She adds that the funeral date, November 8, was the one-year anniversary of them living together.

She says, “Joshua was the love of my life.”

She says they often discussed the future. That included marriage, children, and a home. She says the only time they were apart was after Allen’s summer arrest. However, she says he still wanted to make things right.

Brown recalls, “He wanted to work on things. I loved him — and I believe he was trying.”

Concerns about Joshua Allen’s mental health

Brown and Joshua Allen’s father both say he struggled with mental health issues. Brown says she saw warning signs in their second year together. She noticed strong attachment, jealousy, and fear. She says she tried to speak to many people about it. That included family members, police, and people from his past.

Brown says she kept asking for mental health support for Joshua Allen. But she says she did not get help. She claims police and others focused on jail instead.

She says, “I begged law enforcement to help with his mental health — not arrest him.”

She says three days before Joshua Allen died, she contacted his probation officer. She says she told the officer she was scared. But she says the response she got was not helpful.

According to Brown, the officer told her, “Record him so we can send him back to jail.”

Brown says she believes the system ignored Allen’s needs. She also thinks no one listened when she tried to warn them. She says Allen was going through a struggle, and she wanted to support him.
