Justin Baldoni is not too pleased about the judge dismissing his $400 million lawsuit against Blake Lively.
The Jane the Virgin star's lawyer, Bryan Freedman, spoke to TMZ Live on Tuesday, June 10, where he reflected on how his client reacted to the news:
"What was Justin's reaction to it? The same as my reaction to it, which is: It's not fair. It's not right," he said. "I think that he's a person who wants to be vindicated, and that's all that he cares about," continued Freedman. "He knows who he is. He knows what he's done. He knows what he hasn't done. And he wants the truth to come out, and he wants to do that in the appropriate way. ... He's waiting for his day in court, where he can speak out to tell the truth."
Freedman, who noted that he and Justin Baldoni "weren't pleased" with the judge's decision to dismiss the countersuit on June 9, also added that Justin Baldoni's legal struggles with his It Ends With Us co-star are not over yet.
Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively's legal battle shows no signs of slowing down
Blake Lively publicly responded to the lawsuit on Monday, reflecting on the discomfort she has felt due to Justin Baldoni's lawsuit.
"Like so many others, I've felt the pain of a retaliatory lawsuit, including the manufactured shame that tries to break us," she penned on her Instagram Stories. "While the suit against me was defeated, so many don't have the resources to fight back." "I'm more resolved than ever to continue to stand for every woman's right to have a voice in protecting themselves, including their safety, their integrity, their dignity and their story," she continued. "With love and gratitude for the many who stood by me, many of you I know. Many of you I don't. But I will never stop appreciating or advocating for you," she added.
She also shared a list of organizations and resources for help against domestic violence affecting women, such as the National Organization for Women, Women's Equal Justice, National Network to End Domestic Violence, and more. Justin Baldoni's lawyer, however, responded to the post, claiming that the
"predictable declaration of victory is false."
He further added:
"Ms. Lively and her team’s predictable declaration of victory is false, so let us be clear about the latest ruling," Freedman said in a statement obtained by Fox News Digital. "While the Court dismissed the defamation related claims, the Court has invited us to amend four out of the seven claims against Ms. Lively, which will showcase additional evidence and refined allegations. This case is about false accusations of sexual harassment and retaliation and a nonexistent smear campaign, which Ms. Lively’s own team conveniently describes as ‘untraceable’ because they cannot prove what never happened."
He went on:
"Most importantly, Ms. Lively’s own claims are no truer today than they were yesterday, and with the facts on our side, we march forward with the same confidence that we had when Ms. Lively and her cohorts initiated this battle and look forward to her forthcoming deposition, which I will be taking. We are grateful for the organic show of support from the public and for the dedication of the Internet sleuth community who continue to cover the case with discernment and integrity."
Justin Baldoni and his lawyer, Freedman, have firmly maintained their innocence regarding Lively's accusations of s*xual harassment and running a smear campaign against her. In his statement to TMZ, the latter reiterated these claims, stating that he has already sent a notice to depose Lively later this month.
"We're gonna proceed forward with the case, and we're going to show that there was no sexual harassment, and we're going to show that there was no smear campaign. It's really just that simple. It's unfortunate to be wrongfully accused here," said Freedman.
On June 9, Judge Lewis J. Liman dismissed Justin Baldoni's lawsuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist, Sloane. The claims against The New York Times were also thrown out. However, the judge did allow Justin Baldoni's legal team to amend their claims related to the breach of implied covenant and tortious interference with contract by June 23. Lively's lawyer, Mike Gottlieb, on the other hand, told CNN on June 9 that she is
"determined to see her claims through and to pursue them to have a full public accountability of what she’s alleged happened to her."
He went on:
"I think that today is a message that these kind of retaliatory lawsuits that are really designed to silence and punish people who speak up won’t work," Gottlieb told Jake Tapper. "They are not going to work. They won’t be tolerated by our justice system and they will not be successful. I think that’s an important message for those who want to speak up against the mistreatment that they may face in their workplaces."
