Justin Baldoni was seen for the first time at Disneyland in California after suffering a legal blow amid his ongoing legal struggles with Blake Lively.
The 41-year-old Jane the Virgin alum greeted fans at the theme park this weekend, as seen in videos circulating on TikTok and X. In the Saturday, June 28 videos, the actor was seemingly having a good time with his audience, while in others, he could be seen sauntering around, clad in a Star Wars T-shirt, aviator sunglasses, and a full beard.
One video shows a fan named Carmen filming covertly before Justin Baldoni notices her, prompting him to approach her and awkwardly begin interacting with her. Per the Daily Mail, she conceded to feeling slightly guilty as she may have notified the crowds about his presence.
As Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively's legal battles rage on, here are the newest developments
The It Ends With Us star, who also served as the screenwriter and director of the movie, had his lawsuit against his co-star thrown out just days ago. As reported by several outlets at the time, his extortion and defamation case against her, Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist Sloane bore no legal merit, a judge ruled. His lawsuit against the New York Times for their reporting of the debacle was also tossed.
However, he was granted the option to amend some of his claims in the $400 million countersuit and refile them. The following Tuesday, Justin Baldoni's lawyer, Bryan Freedman, revealed that they would not be tweaking any of their complaints. In a statement to DailyMail.com, Freedman said:
"The Court’s decision on the motion to dismiss has no effect whatsoever on the truth that there was no harassment nor any smear campaign, and it does not in any way affect our vigorous defense against Ms. Lively’s claims. Discovery is proceeding and we are confident that we will prevail against these factually baseless accusations,' he continued. "Instead of revising the existing claims, our clients will be pursuing additional legal options that are available to us."
Freedman also discussed his woes over Judge Liman's decision in an interview with TMZ, where he referred to the ruling as "not fair" and "not right."
"[Justin Baldoni is] a person who wants to be vindicated, and that's all that he cares about," he told the outlet. "He knows who he is. He knows what he's done. He knows what he hasn't done." He continued, "And he wants the truth to come out, and he wants to do that in the appropriate way ... he's waiting for his day in court, where he can speak out to tell the truth."
At the time, Freedman said they would be proceeding with the case, adding:
"We're going to show that there was no sexual harassment, and we're going to show that there was no smear campaign. It's really just that simple. It's unfortunate to be wrongfully accused here."
Shortly after their victory, Lively celebrated the win via a statement, shared by her lawyers, Esra Hudson and Mike Gottlieb.
“Today’s opinion is a total victory and a complete vindication for Blake Lively, along with those that Justin Baldoni and the Wayfarer Parties dragged into their retaliatory lawsuit, including Ryan Reynolds, Leslie Sloane and The New York Times,” she said. “As we have said from day one, this ‘$400 million’ lawsuit was a sham, and the Court saw right through it. We look forward to the next round, which is seeking attorneys’ fees, treble damages and punitive damages against Baldoni, Sarowitz, Nathan, and the other Wayfarer Parties who perpetrated this abusive litigation.”
Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni are now expected to face each other this December, when their trial begins. The former has accused her co-star of sexual harassment and of engineering a smear campaign against her.
Her team has also taken a few hits, according to Variety, seeing as the judge recently denied her motion for a protective order over her communication exchanges with Taylor Swift. At the time, she accused him of dragging her friend into it as part of a PR stunt.
However, Jude Liman found that these private text chains may be relevant to the case, granting Justin Baldoni's legal counsel access to them.
“A motion or request may be, and in this case often has been, both a legitimate litigation tactic and an attempt to maneuver in the broader court of public opinion,” the judge wrote, per the outlet.
