Cynthia Erivo is all set for her next cinematic endeavor, as the actress has joined the cast of Lionsgate's Karoshi opposite Teo Yoo and Isabel May.

Yoo gained acclaim for his role in Past Lives opposite Greta Lee. Even though his work in Hollywood is limited, he is known for his performances in South Korean projects. May is known for her role as Katie Cooper in Netflix's Alexa & Katie and for playing Veronica Duncan in Young Sheldon.

The film is being helmed by Takashi Doscher, along with Chad Stahelski, Alex Young, and Jason Spitz sitting as producers. Doscher is known for his work on Only. It's an action thriller film, possibly a first for Erivo, who is still basking in the success of her critically acclaimed Wicked and is anticipated to be in its sequel, Wicked: For Good, which is coming out this November. Karoshi will begin production in June this year.

The film is described as "a corporate thriller with a samurai twist" by Deadline, which reported the news. In a literal sense, the Japanese term Karoshi translates to overwork death in English, which gives fans a peek into what the movie could be about. The Hollywood Reporter also notes that the film will have a revenge twist. This gives Cynthia Erivo her third upcoming film project, as she will also be a part of Wicked's sequel and Gina Prince Bythewood's Children of Blood and Bone.

Apart from that, she will also be making appearances on TV with Poker Face and Robo Gobo. Her theater credits this year include Jesus Christ Superstar.

Cynthia Erivo grabbed acting nominations in all the major award ceremonies this year for her role as Elphaba in Wicked. Although she lost most of the nominations, her role in the film remains its core, and fans are excited to see her get back on screen for the film's sequel this November.

Erivo was nominated for an Oscar, a Screen Actor's Guild award, an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA this year. Her Oscar win would have upgraded her status to an EGOT, which refers to someone who has won all four of the major awards in American entertainment—an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. Erivo has previously won the other three for her performance in The Colour Purple.

Wicked emerged as one of the biggest and most successful films this year, sweeping award nominations and praise alike for the Broadway-adapted musical that starred Cynthia Erivo in the lead along with Ariana Grande. It bagged ten Oscar nominations, winning two. As the upcoming sequel is all set to release this year, fans have expressed better hope that the film will get recognition at next year's ceremonies.

Wicked: For Good is all set to release on 21 November 2025.
