The Bachelorette star Katie Thurston revealed in her Instagram Broadcast channel this Saturday that the recent death of TV broadcaster Ananda Lewis affected her own battle with stage four breast cancer, the New York Post reports. Lewis, 52, passed away on June 11 after a long battle with breast cancer.

Katie Thurston, a 34-year-old, is a TV personality known for participating in season 25 of The Bachelor and as the star of season 17 of The Bachelorette. Thurston is married to comedian Jeff Arcuri. Thurstin shared her breast cancer diagnosis in February, and in March, she revealed that her cancer had progressed to stage 4.
According to the New York Post, the 34-year-old Bachelorette star took to her channel on Saturday, June 14, to share that,
“Currently more accepting about my diagnosis. Although the passing of fellow sister Ananda Lewis had me spiraling for a day. I’ve mostly kept busy and my mind distracted, which has helped A TON.”

According to US Weekly, Thurston discovered a lump in her breast in November 2024. After her pain did not improve for months, she decided to visit a doctor. After a breast ultrasound, a mammogram, and multiple biopsies, cancer was confirmed.
In February 2025, Katie Thurston revealed her cancer diagnosis to her Instagram followers via a post, where she talked about her post-diagnosis journey and how she would be sharing her cancer journey, as many others' stories had helped her.
The publication further reports that in March, Thurston moved to NYC before starting her fertility treatments. The reality star decided to freeze her embryos before her chemotherapy. Later, on March 28, she shared via Instagram that her cancer had spread to her liver and that her cancer was at stage 4.
In April, when Katie Thurston was getting ready to start her chemo, she heard from her doctor that her HER-2 result came out to be negative. She further explained that,
"What this means is no chemo. Instead, I’ll be on Letrozole + Kisqali + Zoladex as my first line of treatment. This is a custom plan based on being [/] having HER2-negative, Luminal B, hormone-positive breast cancer."
In June, she shared yet another update after the second month of treatment. Thurston shared that her hair was falling off in clumps and that she was experiencing memory trouble.
According to the New York Post, in the most recent update, she talked about how the death of Ananda Lewis affected her. She further shared that she is not taking a holistic approach to cancer.
Katie Thurston shared that,
“A holistic approach takes such extreme discipline that I don’t even have. I have made lifestyle changes (and working on more), but while pairing with my medications.”
While talking about her tumor, Thurston, as per the New York Post, shared that what scared her the most was that it's still in her before adding that she cannot wait to get a double mastectomy.
