Country singer Kellie Pickler scored a win in a legal battle against her in-laws. A Tennessee court ruled in favor of Pickler, according to US Weekly, and dismissed the subpoena issued by her in-laws in a legal row over her late husband's estate. The country star's husband, Kyle Jacobs committed suicide in early 2023, 12 years after he tied the knot with Pickler.
Since Kyle's death, his parents, Reed and Sharon Jacobs have been fighting a legal dispute with Pickler over personal property. The Jacobs believe the personal property belonged to Kyle before his death. Pickler earlier had filed a petition, challenging her in-laws who oversee the administration of the estate after she declined the role.
The feud surrounds a "List of Assets" compiled by Reed and Sharon, and a detailed list of items they attempted to obtain through a subpoena. On Tuesday, a Tennessee judge squashed the subpoena, and called it:
"unusual on its face", the judge also said the paperwork was improperly completed.
"They are not papers for inspection or copying that can be easily supplied to counsel or transported to the location listed in the subpoena. Rather, they are numerous, and, in some instances, large/heavy items of tangible personal property."
Pickler had earlier pointed out that some of the items requested by Reed and Sharon for example, firearms, might be illegal for transportation.
Tennessee court says subpoena against Kellie Pickler is "void and unforceable"
Tennessee court while dismissing Reed and Sharon Jacobs' subpoena against Kellie Pickler noted that since a complaint was not registered against Pickler, subpoena would not be issued.
"The court concludes that the subpoena is void and unforceable in this estate administration case."
The items included in Reed and Sharon's list includes guns, watches, cuff links, a guitat, baseball cards, phone and laptop, a piano, and photographs.
In August 2023, Kellie Pickler, in a statement shared to People, called Kyle Jacobs' death, "the darkest time in my life." She planned an intimate memorial for her husband. As per an autopsy report, which People in May obtained, Jacobs died by suicide. As per the toxicology reports, Jacobs had no drugs in his system at the time of his death but had a history of "pseudoseizures, gastrointestinal bleeding, elevated liver enzymes, and chronic alcohol use."
