Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be the wildest Marvel crossover yet, and Kevin Feige is out here fanning the flames in the best way. In a recent tease that’s basically a love letter to longtime fans, Feige teased something that has been one of the biggest surprises of the upcoming film.
The original X-Men cast is coming back, and they’re not just background noise this time. We’re talking Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, the whole squad, and they will be joining all the Marvel characters- the Fantastic Four, the Avengers and the New Avengers and the Wakandans.
But Feige also let fans in on a little more: Apparently, the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men are all meeting at the Baxter Building. The Marvel president called it “surreal,” which feels like an understatement when you're imagining Storm, Bucky Barnes and Mr. Fantastic all in the same room.
In an interview with Marvel, Feige said:
"The fun of an Avengers movie is introducing people to each other and seeing how very different personalities get along. In the case of a movie that involves the threat of worlds literally colliding, it’s fun to see them visit each other’s homes. So with the Baxter Building set, let’s say it had four or five people in it at most in the Fantastic Four movie. And it’s got a heck of a lot more people in it [in Doomsday]. It’s a thrill to see that interaction. And it’s surreal for me, who’s been around for 25 years."
It’s the kind of multiverse mayhem Marvel’s been hinting at for years, now finally exploding onto the big screen. And from the sound of it, Doomsday might just be the most emotional, chaotic, and totally iconic MCU event we’ve ever seen.
More details on Avengers: Doomsday
With Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel is blowing the whole multiverse wide open and letting chaos, nostalgia, and a very evil man with a metal mask roam free. Dropping on December 18, 2026, this movie precedes Avengers: Secret Wars, that kicks off the endgame of Phase Six and marks the return of the Russo brothers, aka the guys who made Infinity War and Endgame and have worked on some of the best Marvel projects.
The highlight this time is the antagonist: Doctor Doom. But the real kicker is that Robert Downey Jr. is playing him. A twisted little plot twist if we’ve ever seen one, and one that will most probably law down a pretty solid plot for Avengers: Doomsday.
And the cast is not just your usual Avengers squad. We’re talking X-Men from the original Fox films, including Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, the new Fantastic Four, the new Avengers, aka Thunderbolts, and Sam Wilson's Avengers, joined by the Wakandans.
The film is a spiritual successor to what Kang Dynasty was supposed to be before Marvel hit delete and started over with a storyline that feels much more emotional and plot driven. It’ll bring together teams who’ve never met, resurrect rivalries, and probably cause at least one timeline to implode.
Avengers: Doomsday will be in theaters on December 18, 2026
