Kevin Spacey is all set to star in The Awakening, an upcoming conspiracy thriller film from Cloud9 Studios. The actor, who was acquitted of s*xual assault charges by a UK court in 2023, is steadily making a comeback in mainstream cinema.
The Awakening tells the story of two individuals who team up to solve a conspiracy that threatens to destroy the world. Spacey has become the latest actor to join the project, as the previously announced cast includes the likes of Alice Eve and Matt Hookings.
The actor is a two-time Academy Award winner who has been mired in controversy since 2017, when he was accused of s*xual misconduct by several individuals. His career has since been derailed, however, he was found not guilty after an extensive trial in the UK two years ago.

The Awakening revolves around Jason and Rebecca, who find out about a conspiracy that threatens to gain control over the world. As they investigate the matter, they get embroiled in a web of lies and secrets, and have to protect the world before time runs out.
The film is being directed by Matt Routledge, who previously helmed the 2020 action horror Tribal Get Out Alive and has served as a stunt coordinator on movies like The Man Inside, Frontman, and I Am Vengeance: Retaliation.
Debutant Justin Tinto plays the role of Jason, and Alice Eve stars as Rebecca. Apart from the leads and Kevin Spacey, the film also features John Wick: Chapter 2 star Peter Stormare, Expendables 4 actor Eddie Hall, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo actor Steve Berkoff, For Your Eyes Only star Julian Glover, and Kingsman: The Secret Service actor Matt Hookings.
The film is written by Justin Tinto, Matt Hookings, and Matt Routledge, and is being produced by Camelot Films. Cloud9 Studios will be pitching it to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Hookings talked about the theme of the film in an official statement and said:
“The Awakening has a strong message behind it that is extremely timely in our current society and everything that is going on in the world. Crossing over film lovers with conspiracy theorists has opened up a hybrid audience that I didn’t realize could exist.”

Kevin Spacey has largely stayed away from television and films in recent years owing to the controversies. Following his acquittal, he was seen in the 2024 neo-noir thriller Peter Five Eight and the Italian film The Contract. His earlier acclaimed credits include The Usual Suspects, American Beauty, Superman Returns, and Beyond the Sea.
