Korean actor Song Young-kyu found dead at 55 following DUI scandal

Korean actor Song Young-kyu, known for his supporting role in the drama Tale of the Nine-Tailed, was found unresponsive in a car in Yongin on August 4. The news was first reported by an unnamed acquaintance and later confirmed by the Yongin Eastern Police Station in Gyeonggi-do.

According to an insider statement reported by Koreaboo:

"He was distressed by the malicious articles and comments, and the circumstances were extremely unfavorable at that time."

Police are still working on the case to find out more details. As of now, the cause of his death has not been determined.

On June 19, Song Young-kyu was caught driving under the influence for about 5 kilometers in Yongin’s Giheung District. Police were alerted by a witness, and his blood alcohol level was high enough to warrant license cancellation. He was later referred to the prosecution without being taken into custody.

What was Song Young-kyu's last drama?

According to MyDramaList, Young-kyu was last featured in The Winning Try, released in 2025. He has done a number of guest and support roles in many famous dramas that include The Haunted Place, Destined With You, Tale of the Nine Tailed, and Come and Hug Me. His first drama was That Summer’s Typhoon, released in 2005.

Alongside dramas, he worked in a number of movies, some of which include Land Of Happiness, Toxic, A Trap, and Love Phobia. Because of his fame, he also landed guest roles in many TV shows like The Oppa of Tteokbokki House Season 2 and Story of the Day When You Bite Your Tail Season 3.

However, following the DUI case, he resigned from his role in Shakespeare in Love, Try, and The Defects.

Song Young-kyu's funeral is scheduled to be held at the funeral home of Davos Hospital, located in Room 1, Cheoin District, Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, on August 6.
