KPop Demon Hunters 2 is the forthcoming sequel to 2025's KPop Demon Hunters. The animated musical fantasy film has officially been announced after months of speculation by fans. The first one was directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, and it premiered on Netflix on June 20, 2025, to a positive critical response. Both the film and its soundtrack were well received, with the latter receiving a Platinum certification from the RIAA.

There is a new update regarding the sequel, which might upset fans. The film might be released sometime in 2029, meaning fans will have to wait longer.

KPop Demon Hunters 2 to release in 2029

As per Deadline, both Netflix and Sony are planning to release KPop Demon Hunters 2 sometime in 2029. The film will start streaming on the platform nearly four years from now.

The makers have yet to release whether it will also have a limited theatrical release like the first one, and it's still unclear why there has been a delay of 2029. The first film amassed more than 325 million views, becoming the most-watched original title (movie) for Netflix in its history. KPop Demon Hunters is also the maiden Netflix title to top the box office list in August with a total gross of $24 million ($19 million was earned in two days).

Its soundtrack album also became the first for a film soundtrack to have four of its songs feature in the Billboard Hot 100 top ten. The RIAA also gave it a Platinum certification. In August, the track titled Golden topped the Billboard list. The film's success has inspired a short film and a Netflix deal with Mattel and Hasbro for its merchandise.

Back in July, the film's co-director, Maggie Kang, expressed her interest in doing KPop Demon Hunters 2. When asked if she is thinking about it, she said:

"Always. There are always side stories, and there are things we've thought of while making this one. There are a lot of questions that are answered, but not fully. I think there are a lot of pockets that we can explore."

The first film was about a K-pop girl band whose members are also demon hunters. They face off against a boy band that consists of demons. Kang wrote the story, while the screenplay was penned by Kang, Danya Jimenez, Hannah McMechan, Maggie Kang, and Chris Appelhans.
