KPop Demon Hunters sequel reportedly in early talking stage at Netflix: Here are all the latest updates

KPop Demon Hunters was released on Netflix on June 20, 2025. The animated film is in the genre of musical urban fantasy and was helmed by Chris Appelhans and Maggie Kang while Michelle Wong is the producer. Post its streaming release, a sing-along version was also released theatrically on limited screens on August 23 and 24. Its official synopsis as per Letterboxd:

When K-pop superstars Rumi, Mira and Zoey aren’t selling out stadiums, they’re using their secret powers to protect their fans from supernatural threats.

KPop Demon Hunters sequel likely to happen as early talks take place

Sony and Netflix are currently working on a sequel to KPop Demon Hunters. As per Deadline, the streamer is in the early stage of talks to take the story forward. It has become the most-watched film on the platform, with 236 million views since its release. The film has surpassed Red Notice, which was earlier the most-watched Netflix English film. The sing-along version has also grossed $19.2 million at the box office.

Maggie Kang has written the story of KPop Demon Hunters, while the screenplay is by Kang, Chris Appelhans, Danya Jimenez, and Hannah McMechan. The film's voice cast includes:

  • Ahn Hyo-seop as Jinu
  • May Hong as Mira
  • Ji-young Yoo as Zoey
  • Lee Byung-hun as Gwi-Ma
  • Yunjin Kim as Celine

Besides the film, its soundtrack album has also done well. In almost 30 years, KPop Demon Hunters is also the first soundtrack to achieve four Hot 100 top 10s.

In a Variety interview, Arden Cho spoke about the sequel. She said:

“I would love to see if we can rescue Jinu! It is a magical world, right? I feel like the options are endless, and our incredible writers and directors left it a bit open. Anything is possible."

Talking to USA Today, Ahn Hyo-seop said he would love to have his character make a comeback.

“I mean, Jinu gave his soul, so like I never really imagined how he would come back. As someone who loves Jinu as a fan, too, of course I would love to see him come back. But it’s not up to me.”
