Kumail Nanjiani was all ready to spend his next decade with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but negative reviews from his debut tarnished the ten-year dream. The actor, who played Kingo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero film Eternals and voiced the character in the series What If...? opened up about the plans Marvel had for his character, before it all went down the drain.

Speaking to Mike Birbiglia on the Working It Out podcast, Nanjiani said,

"I was like, 'This is going to be my job for the next ten years.' I signed on for six movies. I signed on for a video game. I signed on for a theme park ride. They make you sign on for all this stuff. You're like, 'Okay, so I'll be doing Marvel movies every year, and in between, I'll do my own little things. Whatever I want to do.'"

He then continued to talk about how the film's performance shattered him and his expectations, as he added,

"It came out right after COVID, so I had a year and a half at home to be just like, 'When this thing comes out...' It came out, it got really bad reviews, and it didn't do that well. It shattered me too much. That was when I was like, 'Oh, I need to go to therapy to figure this out.'"

Eternals had an ensemble cast that included a number of stars apart from Kumail Nanjiani that soared high but failed to receive any praise from critics. Opening to average reviews and sealing the box office with a $400 million income, the film set up events for a potential sequel, but four years down the line, there have not been any talks of any sequel or future for the characters in the film.
