LA Chargers’ linebacker Denzel Perryman arrested over assault weapon charges

Linebacker Denzel Perryman was arrested on weapons violation charges on Friday in Los Angeles.

LA Chargers’ linebacker Denzel Perryman is in quite the hot water as he was recently arrested on an assault weapon charge. The football player was booked on a felony charge at 9:41 p.m. Friday night.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports,

"NFL player, Denzel Perryman, was arrested by South Los Angeles Station deputies on Friday, August 1, 2025. Deputies conducted a traffic stop of Mr. Perryman’s vehicle for vehicle code violations. During their investigation, Mr. Perryman was arrested for multiple weapons violations," the statement further read, "Mr. Perryman was extremely cooperative with deputies throughout the investigation."

Perryman’s agent, Ron Butler, also gave a statement expressing the fact that they are aware of the situation as it unfolds.

“We are aware of the recent reports regarding Denzel Perryman’s arrest in Los Angeles. At this time, we are still gathering facts and will fully cooperate with the process."

He further voiced sentiments on his character and his personality as a sportsman,

“Denzel is a respected veteran in the NFL and a dedicated father, teammate, and professional. While we do not take this situation lightly, we remain confident that the matter will be resolved fairly and in accordance with the law. Out of respect for the process and all parties involved, we will have no further comment at this time.”

This ordeal is Denzel's first felony arrest; however, he was suspended by the NFL for three games in 2023 for multiple violations of the player safety rules while he was playing for the Houston Texans. The player was stopped by police while on his way to a gun range, where they searched his car and found two AR rifles and three handguns, which turned out to be illegal according to California law.


Denzel Perryman's NFL career

The 32-year-old, his 11th NFL season. He was drafted in the second round in 2015 by the Miami Hurricanes and is currently doing his second stint with the Chargers. Denzel Perryman played 11 games last season, recording 55 tackles and one interception for the Chargers. He also played for the Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans before coming back to the Chargers for the 2024 season.

Perryman is due in court on Tuesday.
