Actress Paula Patton recently opened up about her decision to become sober in 2018. In a conversation on Big Tigger Morning Show with Jazzy Mcbee, a popular Atlanta-based radio show, Patton spoke candidly about her journey:

“Seven years ago, I got sober and life took me on a journey which was wild but amazing. When you get sober, it's so funny, I just had this epiphany that I had made a choice like, it was family, it was my life, or chaos to be honest.”

Paula Patton made her appearance on the show to promote her new film, Finding Faith, which is now in theatres. At the onset of the interview, Paula likened her character’s journey in the film to her own experiences with substances and sobriety.

Paula Patton chooses sobriety

Paula Patton shares a son with ex-husband Robin Thicke. The pair got divorced in 2014. The actress credits her son, Julian Fuego, for inspiring her to commit to a sober lifestyle, especially once her habits began to cause her friends and work to "fall away.”

"I was about to go do a movie in London, and I was like, I can't do this anymore. I'm like, I want to be here to pack my son's lunch and go on field trips."

Patton continued,

“So you have to find your way through it to find out who you truly are, and that can be really challenging. There's a lot of time alone, you know, and having to face myself and memories and such. But then on the other side was this joy, just joy for being a mother, a joy of life."

The Mission: Impossible franchise alum went on to say,

"Suddenly, I just had this childlike experience, where I started to see everything through my kid's eyes. Because he’s my best friend. It was like being born again.”

It’s evident that Paula Patton is on the path of healing, as she gears up to dip her feet back into acting. Finding Faith is a seemingly fitting vehicle for her return. It tells the story of a woman named Faith who spirals out of control in response to a sudden tragedy. With the help of her pastor, family, and friends, she attempts to claw out of the darkness and into the light.
