The Sydney Sweeney American Eagle ad controversy continues to stretch as it is about to enter its third week. While the debate regarding the controversial ad campaign stays alive on social media platforms, various celebrities have weighed in on the matter and shared their contrasting opinions.
The controversy surrounding the apparel brand American Eagle and the Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney began on July 23, 2025. Sweeney, who starred in three brief advertisements for the brand, sparked a controversy and started an online debate following the tagline "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans", which also drew criticism.
The internet was divided, with a section enraged over the ad campaign, while others didn't take it that seriously, considering it's just an advertisement. Whereas some were bothered by the wordplay between "genes" and "jeans" in the ad, some suggested American Eagle promoted eugenics and N*zi propaganda. Not to mention, some also suggested that Sydney Sweeney was over-s*xualized in those ads.
While the internet continues to debate the whole matter, as per US Weekly, American Eagle released an official statement on August 1, 2025, responding to the repercussion. The American Eagle statement read:
"‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone."
Interestingly, it's not only the netizens who are worked up regarding the matter. A bunch of celebrities, including the American rapper/singer Lizzo and television personality Gabby Windey, have shared their opinion on the Sydney Sweeney American Eagle ad campaign.
According to US Weekly, the 37-year-old Lizzo made fun of Sydney Sweeney by releasing a parody video of her own, in which she can be seen rapping and zipping jeans, just like the Anyone But You actress did in the ads.
As per US Weekly, on the other hand, the 34-year-old reality TV star and The Bachelor alum, Gabby Windey, took to her TikTok on July 29, 2025, and said:
"I just watched the Sydney Sweeney ad, well, the one on her Instagram, which is apparently mild compared to everything else. We’ve all seen the commentary, and yes, it’s terrifying."
Windey further added:
"But also in the ad, they do a close-up ass shot, and she’s not filling out the jeans. She doesn’t have that good of jeans. These jeans are doing nothing for her *ss. G-E-N-E or J-E-A-N, either one. So I beg to differ [on] the whole thing."
A few other prominent celebrities who have weighed in on the Sydney Sweeney American Eagle ad campaign

Besides rapper Lizzo and reality TV star Gabby Windey, a few other prominent high-profile celebrities have also shared their opinion on the controversial American Eagle ads. According to US Weekly, some of those prominent celebrities include:

Doja Cat
The 29-year-old singer-songwriter and rapper, Doja Cat, took a dig at the controversial ad campaign and mocked it as she took to her TikTok on July 29, 2025, and said:

Molly Dickson
Celebrity fashion stylist, Molly Dickson, who also happens to be Sydney's stylist, on July 23, 2025, took to American Eagle's comment section and supported the Americana actress with a bunch of fire emojis: "🔥🔥🔥"

"Wow. Now the crazy Left has come out against beautiful women. I’m sure that will poll well."
Maye Musk
Multi-billionaire and tech tycoon Elon Musk's mother, Maye Musk, supported the actress and the ad campaign by commenting "🔥🔥❤️🐶" on a picture in which Sydney Sweeney can be seen with her dog, wearing American Eagle jeans.
