Luca Guadagnino is set to direct a film about artificial intelligence titled Artificial. The film is written by Simon Rich for Amazon MGM Studios. Given the hype and development around AI in recent years, the film's subject matter is expected to resonate with people.
Earlier, it was announced that Ike Barinholtz will be playing the role of billionaire Elon Musk. Now, another actor associated with Saturday Night has joined the film's cast: Cooper Hoffman, who had earlier acted in Paul Thomas Anderson's 2021 film Licorice Pizza.
Let us find out more about the film and its casting.
Cooper Hoffman joins the cast of Artificial
According to a report by Deadline, Cooper Hoffman has joined the cast of Luca Guadagnino's upcoming AI film Artificial. The details of Hoffman's character are not revealed as of yet. Hoffman is the son of the late actor Philip Seymour Hoffman.
This news comes on the heels of Ike Barinholtz's casting announcement in the film. The Studio actor will be playing Elon Musk in the film. Other actors who have been announced so far are Cooper Koch, Andrew Garfield, and Yura Borisov.
Simon Rich (also the writer), David Heyman, Jennifer Fox, and Jeffrey Clifford are producing the film under the banner of Heyday Films. The film is touted as a comedy-drama set against the backdrop of artificial intelligence. The report also stated that the story is set during the time of 2023, when OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, was fired and quickly rehired within a few days. Altman's firing was attributed to his inability to communicate his idea to the board.
Helen Toner, one of the firm's directors, had co-written a research paper that was critical of the safety practices inside OpenAI. Altman tried to remove her from the company for the same reason. Right after his firing, Microsoft offered Altman a position that led to its staff members threatening to quit. After some time, Altman managed to get rehired amid several staff members getting replaced.
Elon Musk and Altman started OpenAI in 2015. But the billionaire left the company in 2018 after his disagreements with the way things were. Musk then went on to start his own AI company called xAI.
Meanwhile, Guadagnino has directed films like Queer, Challengers, Bones And All, Suspiria, and Call Me By Your Name, among others. Over the years, the Italian filmmaker has navigated several genres.
