Macaulay Culkin ingratiated himself with audiences as a child actor by playing one of the most iconic roles in holiday movie history. His performance in the Home Alone franchise truly stands the test of time in a film series that is still relevant in modern times.

In the latest news about the actor, Macaulay Culkin recently sat down for an interview on Mythical Kitchen in which he shared several thoughts about the Home Alone films and his career. When asked if another cult classic film, Die Hard, was a Christmas movie, Culkin seemed to have a definitive answer.

“No, no it’s not. Don’t fight me! It’s based around Christmas, but if it were also St. Patrick’s Day, it would still work. But you couldn’t do ‘Home Alone’ on Memorial Day. It doesn’t work that way.”

He added,

“I’m the godfather of Christmas nowadays. My opinion has some sway in this argument.”

The topic has been hotly debated online, particularly as the holiday season approaches, and Macaulay Culkin appears to be firmly clear about where he stands on the matter.

Is Macaulay Culkin open to a potential Home Alone sequel?

Macaulay Culkin certainly made headlines in late November while on one of his A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin tour dates. For the first time, the actor made a point to say that he could be open to returning to the franchise for a sequel if the conditions were ideal for him. Not only that, he even shared a pitch for what the story could entail.

“I kind of had this idea. I’m either a widower or a divorcee. I’m raising a kid and all that stuff. I’m working really hard and I’m not really paying enough attention and the kid is kind of getting miffed at me and then I get locked out. [Kevin’s son] won’t let me in… and he’s the one setting traps for me.”

He added that,

“the house is some sort of metaphor for our relationship. Get let back into son’s heart’ kind of deal. That’s the closest elevator pitch that I have. I’m not completely allergic to it, the right thing.”

In a December 14 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Macaulay Culkin offered fresh insight into how a potential sequel could work, speaking alongside the director of the first two films, Chris Columbus.

“There’s one of two ways you can do it. One, he actually leaves the kid behind by mistake; he calls up his mom like, ‘So sorry, I get it now.’ Or I leave him behind on purpose, like, ‘Oh, that made me the man I am today.'”

While this is a fun exercise to engage in, it remains to be seen if we will see Macaulay Culkin reprise his role as Kevin McAllister in the future.
